Hey, everyone-- I was playing my Wreck tonight, straight in, volume around 1:30, no attenuation, and with my guitar around 8-9, there was a...well, "harmonic swirl" Not sure what else to call it--kinda reminded me of when a fuzz pedal is maxed out and pushing an amp hard. Is this common w/ el84's (or any tube), or is this indicative of a bad tube somewhere? I kinda don't like the sound, personally. But, I also hardly ever run it this loud anymore. In a band context it probably would go unnoticed, but man it's killing me in my room. Any suggestions? Oh, I just had a retune back in June. Thanks all-- Matt

It's hard for me to grasp the sound you're hearing?? Will this sound come through on a recording?
If so, could you maybe record a short clip of this and post it?

I'm thinking bad tube , probably a preamp tube.

telejas--it is hard to describe. It literally sounds like a swirling in the overdrive. Almost phase-ish. BritInvasion--I agree--I think I have a microphonic tube somewhere. I'll need to try and swap them each out. Thanks for the responses, guys!
