Ok..... I've recently aquired a TopHat King Royale, which sounds very similar to an AC30. I've played a couple of AC30's and this TopHat through my Z cab, and I can never get as much bass as my RX-ES has. Does the Stangray have more low end than an AC30, but without being too much low end.. or is it still pretty much in the same range as the AC30??
How about the RX-ES vs a Stangray on the low end?? I don't use a lot of low end, but it's nice to add a bit of "spring" to your sound sometimes.

When I was A/B'ing the two, my impression was that the Stingray had more bottom end. I'll know more after I gig them both tonight.

I have both the StangRay and RxES. In my opinion, yes the StangRay has a more bass oriented sound. It's still very clear and shimmery, but the low end just thunders on this amp, and that's with a 2x12 C-Blue cab. With that being said, I don't think the RxES lacks anything in the low end. It is still a very thick and punchy sound, especially with the volume up some. For what I'm playing, I actually prefer the RxES. I'm able to get just as good of clean tone as the Ray, although it is different, and then move into the best classic crunch sound I've ever heard just by using the guitars volume control. It's my favorite amp.

I have owned a few AC30's and my Stangray definitely had nore low end than any of them. Not muddy at all though. The Stangray has this certain reediness to the low end and to the attack that is hard to describe. Absolutely beautifull.

The Stingray is not as picky when it comes to input voltage. If the AC30 does not get 115 volts, it sounds like it has no low end. I leave my AC30 at home so that some day I can sell it and retire.

Keep in mind that most of the amps that follow the Vox AC30 are based after the AC30/6 which had less "life" to my ears than the original first AC30/4 with the EF86 front end. That front end is also what was some of the magic in the AC15.
The AC30/4 front end, as in the Z amp, also will let the true tone and aspects of pedals come through generally better than a 12AX7 front end gain stage that will compress faster and cave in a bit on itself sooner than the EF86 pentode.

Yes. It's tone knob seems to give it more highs and lows.

This is weird answering my own post?!?!?!
Heck yes it does!! But it can be tamed...... so it's there if you want/need it and can be dialed out with the tone knob.
