I haven't played anything else since I got mine. I had not even used pedals with it until tonight at band practice, but it was a whole new thing.
Salt and pepper here too.

You guys are out of control! I can't believe I was able to show restraint and not pull the trigger ! I'm saving up for the next recession. When that hits I'll hit the GAS.

It sounds like its going to be part z/part fender...i have never owned a hand wired fender anything so this could be best of both worlds?
I know my mazes have a sweet thing going on w/strat so they wont be going anywhere...by the way dave premium that bag of chips have been dug pretty deep reading your personal shtuff there.

I have had several hand wired Vibro Kings over the years. I actually sold my 1993 VK to fund the Z lux. I currently have a 20th anniversary HW Vibro King. It's real warm and buttery. Huge 3D tone. It's my favorite amp. The three ten inch speakers really make that amp shine. I am actually anticipating the Z Lux to give it a run for its money.

That's interesting, I had a '94 Vibro King for 12 years before I got my Maz sr. That Vibro King was just great, and I loved it to bits. Unfortunately latterly I found it too loud and too heavy, so after a brief and unsuccessful spell with a '57 Tweed Twin reissue, I got the Maz head and a 1x12 cab and haven't looked back. I have a Ghia and Z 2x10 cab as backup, but that may well go to fund a Z-Lux. I'll be really interested in any comparison you can make between the 'King and the 'Lux. Good luck!

Mickey you are right they are very heavy like 72lbs and they are really loud. One trick with the Vibro King is you put the volume at 7-8 and roll back everything else to 0 then slowly increase the mids and add just a touch of bass and treble. You can get some fat tone at bedroom volume. They did make some significant changes on the 20th anniversary model for one its pine and weighs 60lbs ( Still not exactly lite) They also tapered the volume. I can play my pine model at 2 at home and its not waking up the neighbors its a comfortable level. Where as the older model with the volume at 2 is pretty loud. They also improved the speakers. I was always a huge fan of the blue frame alnicos. I really never liked the jensons. However the 20th anniversary has pre-broken in Jensons and they sound incredible. What really was cool for me is I purchased my Z-lux From Matts Music and the guy I spoke to on the phone also had a Vibro King for a while so he was able to answer the questions I had about the Z-lux and confirmed some things with me about it comparing it with the Vibro King. I was really encouraged but what he had said about the Z-lux. For one it has that huge 3d tone. He said it also has some good bass response so you can fatten it up. I like clean but not overly bright. That right there is what Im talking about. I don't expect a 1/12 combo to protect the sound like the three 10 combo Vibro King but still thats a plus. The vibro King really is in a world of its own with those three speakers thats what makes it special its different then anything out there. I have read many posts about whats a smaller version of the Vibro king? Some people always point to the Vibrolux but its nothing like the King. Its not even hand wired. Once you play hand wired amps they have a certain feel to them. You get spoiled. At least that what happend to me. The Z-lux has some of the same features as the Vibro King and the fact that its hand wired and made by DR Z you know its going to be solid. I been waiting for someone to make a amp like the Z-lux and thankfully the Doc did it I am quite sure I will like it. I will give you a comparison of the two. I really won't be surprised if the Z-lux blows it away either. I still really like the Vibro King though its a great amp.

I really won't be surprised if the Z-lux blows it away either. I still really like the Vibro King though its a great amp. Well, I tried all the tricks with that amp, volume high and tones low, for example, and you're right, I could never really get mine above 3 maximum at a normal gig, thouh I always felt that 4 or 5 was the sweet spot. I did like the blue frames which mine came with, and I also had no problems with the EL84 reverb driver, which many said burnt out in a very short time. Of course Fender changed that to a 6v6 in the mid nineties. When all is said and done though, I've been happier wth my Maz Sr. than I ever was with the Vibro King, much as I loved that amp. I've been gigging it probably 7 or 8 years now, and I remember, when I first got it, I said that it sounded the way I always wanted my Fenders to sound, but never did. That still hold true for me today. I'm not looking for another amp to sound like the VK, and really I'm not on the hunt for another amp, but the Lux does, on paper, have everything I'd look for if I was, and of course I'm totally sold on Z amps so I'm definitely curious! Who knows.....good luck with yours, don't forget to post a review!

Mickey no problem. The Vibro King I just sold had the EL84 reverb tube driver and I also never ever had issues with it. I gigged that amp at church for the past couple of years and would get it up 3-4 occasionally. At about 4 is where it would start to break up pretty good. Mine also had a master volume mod in the back which BTW I never used! I would control everything with my guitar volume and tone controls. Glad the Maz Sr is working for you. I am feeling really good about the Z-Lux. I just checked UPS says Tuesday.
