So Im thinking of picking up a maz 8 but would like to know, is it going to be enough amp for a blues/rock band in venues that seat 50-150 people? enough headroom?, Im wondering if you could install 5751 tubes for better headroom and also goose it with a boost pedal if you need just a tad more volume?

I changed my V1 to a JJ 5751 which made a real difference in headroom. I've got a Texas Heat inbound to swap with the Celestion blue that's currently in. I know it's a very popular speaker but I'm really interested in hearing the difference.

I took mine to three gigs last year in about a 100 seat bar. I had plenty of headroom.

It's louder than you'd think.

It's louder than you'd think. Especially in pentode mode.

Got told to turn down at a 100 seat banquet. I was using my Maz 8 with a blue and an extension cabinet with a blue. The bass player had a 480 watt rig with 2 cabinets. I kid you not.

I took mine to soundcheck last night, she held up beautifully. Mic'd and monitors of course, but I didn't have to run it past 8 o'clock (2-2 1/2) in Triode mode, no bypass either!!

Being told to turn down whilst playing thru a Maz 8 is a special feeling. As long as your drummer isn't playing with 4 sticks you should have no issue.

The MAZ 8 will be loud enough for most venues of the size you mention. Too loud for some if you want power amp overdrive. A drive pedal or two (or more) can be useful to control volume and get some additional tonal options. It might not be loud enough if you are playing to a group of fellow musicians, but should be fine for the average social gathering. ME

Been eyeballing the Maz 8 as well. I picked up the Maz 18 and love it but its a bit to much for really small hole in the wall joints since I hate attenuators. I like to let amps breathe. That thing has to be pushing between 25-30W when cooking. I'd love to hear a side by side comparison. If it sounds like the 18 its gonna be on my to do list. I expect you would have to lose some girth with the reduced wattage though.

The Maz 8 is a different beast, You have the Maz sounds and so much more but at a lower volume. If you're drummer is a hard hitter it may be an issue unless mic'd
