Greetings... I have a Maz 18 and a 2 X 12 cab...and I consider myself to like a "bright" sounding amp. I play Strats and Teles...But I seem to have to run both the "treble" and the "cut" at 9 o'clock. I wonder if that takes out some frequencies that i would like to hear - just so I can tame the highs. I just saw Buddy Whittington live and he has a tone from God! So... am I playing this amp right - is there something I'm missing? Should I set it up differently? Does the Maz Jr have more highs and a different tonality from the Sr.? Comments???

Well, my maz 18 with two tens is bright also (with single coils). How do you set the mids and bass? Coming from Fender amp land i am amazed that i can crank the bass quite high. I have been using much less of the cut lately, (with single coils).

I set the M and B and noon. Interesting.... I'll crank the bass and try that... thanks!

I don't know about everyone else but my Maz is a little bassy...lol... I'm playing thru a 1x12 at the moment...I usually prefer 2x10's.
One thing I can say is that the tone controls are so versatile that you can twiddle knobs in very unconventional ways and get good sounds from every place....

with my tele i have the treble at 10 oclock and m, b, and cut at noon. sounds good to me. i also am running it through the "dark" input. that fact may help out.

..when i got my Maz 18NR 2-10 a couple of months ago it was basically brand spankin new...i thought it was too bright/harsh and kept that treble around 9 oclock...as the speakers broke in and i switched an old stock RCA 12ax7 in the V1 spot the tone loosened up and the brightness eased off.....( i think you can stick a 5751 in that spot with similar results....i can use the treble control up to about noon now depending on the guitar but strats and teles are about 10 oclock...with good pickups the tone control on the guitar is quite effective with that maz 18 too...

As a followup... I was mainly concerned about the bridge pickup on a Strat being too shrill and I have done some experimenting and found that to set the amp up with both cut and treble at 9 o'clock, I was killing the harmonics and tone of the amp. I hadn't really noticed that I had been subtling strangling the amp but turning the cut and treble down, down, down... So now I run the cut at Noon and the treble between Noon and 10'o'clock - depending on the guitar. I am much more happy with the tone now! I just have to roll some highs off those Strat bridge pickups with the Tone on the guitar...

I mainly play my 68 Paul and set the cut at aroun 7 most of the time, with the bass around 3 and the treble and mid up. When I play my Broadcaster, I generally turn the tone knob on the guitar back a bit or it's too shrill. My take on the Z is that the tone knob on the guitar always has a lot more affect than you are use to with Fenders, Marshalls, etc.
