I haven't really talked about it (haven't had much Z-Talk time lately) but I have one of Paul T's guitars. His favorite 335. I bought it first of the year from Mrs. T right before the big snow storm. As you'd expect, FedEx packages from up there were delayed a week or better. I guess in the rush when things turned loose, FedEx broke my guitar. The neck broke at the body and there was some internal damage as well. Even though it was insured, FedEx refused to pay for repairs. And I surely wasn't going to send it back or go after Mrs. T, so I ate it. Finally got it back a couple of weeks ago and got to play it out last night.
I haven't held back that I think the Z-Lux is the greatest amp ever, especially for me, but I've only really played strats through it. Never needed to play anything else. The Strats are so amazing. Well, a 335 is pretty freaking remarkable, too. Really, really freakin good. In fact, it might be my new go-to. That guitar would be special even if it didn't suite my taste, but it's one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever played. It kept my jaw on the ground through the Lux last night.
I can't say enough about this amp. We played on the quiet side last night. Drummer used brushes the first set. From quiet to cranked, best amp ever.

Shannon, what a horror story about FedEx. That's disappointing to hear, especially since I've personally always preferred them over the big brown trucks. But so glad that the repairs worked out for your guitar...You did the right thing.
I've struggled with my 335 and Z-Lux at home, but last week I played a gig with that pairing. It was a lot different in a big room, and it worked out great. Funny part is that with a Strat it sounded a lot more like it does at home once onstage. Big difference with the 335 though. How did you set up the amp? Did you use any overdrive pedals, or straight in?

I've briefly played a 335-type through the Z-Lux and liked it a lot.
Love that you have one of Paul's guitars, Shannon. Disturbing that FedEx didn't make good. Like Dave, I've generally preferred them over the competition for shipping gear I've sold.

Ahhhh a 335...always wanted one. It seems like Z's bring out the best in every guitar. It's better to do good than have money....that guitar's story is growing, enjoy it!

Shannon, I hope this isn't too much of a derail, but on what basis did FedEx deny the claim? I too have always trusted them more than UPS.

Volume around 11, high and mid around 4, bass around 3 (to equalize volume of boost) and master to taste as the night went on, but never really loud. Neck pup 98.7% of the night.

Shannon, I hope this isn't too much of a derail, but on what basis did FedEx deny the claim? I too have always trusted them more than UPS. They claimed it was a packing issue. No one ever came to look at it. It was shipped in the case, packed with bubbles in a Gibson box. The shipper was a friend of Paul's that owns a guitar shop that ships all the time. Packing was fine. I sent pictures and FedEx said they were going to send someone by. After a few weeks and no visit, they just denied the claim. BS but I didn't want to keep dragging it out. If I was dealing with them directly, I probably would have kept going, but their policy is the shipper has to file the claim and deal with it. I'm pretty sure when the snow finally slacked up, they were slinging boxes like crazy trying to catch up. I figure they just dropped it right out of the airplane over Alabama.

It's really neat how running the tone knobs "high" helps narrow the boost differential. And it sounds good on its own. I often dial the JAZ in like this, and it doesn't have the boost.

Yeah, if we had a "package cam" attached to these things I expect we'd be horrified at what we saw!

I have an 8 month old Gibby ES Les Paul. This guitar is a dead ringer for a 335/Les Paul hybrid. I have had 336 and 339s they are not even close, but this ES Lester is right in the middle of 335 meets an R9. I have been too busy playing my Z-lex to chime in. The Z lux is magic with all of my guitars, strats, R9, & my ES Les Paul. I've had the amp for eight months. Pure magic, I say!

Shannon- who repaired the instrument? Tony Martinez. He's been working on my gear since 94. Been working on Jason's for longer than that.
