I am thinking of getting a cabinet for my z-28 which is in head form and was wondering about a hellatone 30. Have any of you Z-28 owners tried this speaker with the 28 and if so what are your impressions. Thanks for any advice--Jester

It's a rebranded celestion G12H30. A very versatile mainstream speaker that does well with lots of amps. It pairs well with a greenback for classic British tone. My favorite combo with the 28 was a pair of 10" celestion golds.

Have had my Z28 for years. I seem to be going back and forth with the 1x12 Gold and 1x12 Greenback. I am loving the Greenback lately - allows the amp to be opened up a bit more.
It came with the G12H30, and thought that sounded pretty good but I am liking the others much better.

The Celestion Creamback M ceramic is sounding really good to me. Greenback is great as well.

I used a Hellatone 30 with my Z28 for a few years. I can't say I loved it, but there was nothing about it that I really didn't like either.
Recently I picked up an Eminence Red, White and Blues to use with another amp. I installed it in my 1x12 Z convertible cab, plugged the Z28 into it, and I really liked it. It just seemed smoother, less aggressive, and I suppose more "American" sounding. Seemed to be a cool pairing if you're looking for those kinds of tones.

I always wanted to bring out the Fendery side of my Z-28 so I liked it best with US voiced speakers like the 30 watt Weber 12(A or F)150 or 12A125. My two favorite non US speakers with it were a Cele Gold and a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell. I've heard good things about the RW&B but have never tried one.

So far that was my least favorite speaker with the Z-28. The Gold I have now best fits my needs. The Creamback was good and if ya need some volume in a 10" speaker the Red Fang can't be beat

IMO, the Z-28 seems to play nicely with lots of different speakers. I preferred mine with a Hellatone 30 for quite a while. That is, until I realized that the Tone Tubby 40/40 ceramic (way different from the red alnico!) is a better G12H than the G12H-30 Anniversary. So, the TT ceramic now gets the nod; but again, lots of speakers will work, so good luck in your selection.

The red fang has a lot of the characteristics we all like about the Celestion blue... Just more aggressive. I like the ten inch version better than the twelve.

When I had my Z-28 combo years ago, it came with a greenback. When I first fired it up in the basement, WAY too much midrange. At the expense of bass and treble. I may have used it for a gig or two, but I made the decision to swap out the speaker for a G12H30. And for those of you who know me in this forum, I normally can't stand the H. But in this case, I thought it would be the right speaker. The H is heavy on bass and treble...recessed on mids. I thought this would help offset the midrange heavy Z-28. So I bought a WGS clone of the H. I played it for a while, but it still ended up feeling like too much bass and treble. So I eventually put the greenback back in. That was the last time I played an H speaker! I realized the amp is just more mid heavy (or a different KIND of mids) than say a Remedy...or the 'British' sound.

V30 that came in cabinet when I bought it 9 years ago ...... is still in my cabinet and gets regular use
Also, I tend to favor the ol' Z 210 cabinet with a pair of Z 10s .....
Stack'em and have some fun ... just sayin'
cheers always, eh

Weber alnico blue was my favorite. 30 watts light dope.

Just tried the Celestion A-Type and it sounded really good. American flavor and handled pedals very nicely.
