Today as I was firing up and playing the jaz that hasn't been played in a long time I set the eq like this
Volume 9 Treble 10-10:30 Mids dimed Bass 10-10:30 Master noon
Seemed to me that it sounds great with the mids cranked and made my pedals sound better. Anybody else dime their mids on the jaz or any other z amp for that matter and like the results? It seemed to me that I got a sweeter tone and hit the sweet spot with treble and bass at lower volumes and a better over all guitar mix. Id never have thought that mids cranked and treble and bass lower would make such a huge tonal difference for the better.

Mids are where it's all happens. I'll do it with the Therapy...makes more like a Monza...vroom, vroom.

Sometimes I crank all the eq knobs full up as a starting point. Then adjust as desired.

I definitely like the mids bumped up. Mikes idea of cranking everything up is a good one and sounds great. Very Twin-ish. For a while I was thinking of the mid knob as treble and the treble knob as presence. In that case I like the mid knob high or max and the treble low and bass knob real high. Then I tried Mikes "full monty" setting and really liked that. Then I tried... Well you get the point. Its all good. My favorite amp of all time.

I go through phases with my tone settings. I used to max the tone controls on my JAZ and then decrease the treble control until it seemed to be right with whatever guitar I was using currently. If I needed boosted mids I did it with my Paisley Drive which is what TS type pedals do well. Now I seem to be running the treble and bass around 10:00 with the mid WFO and I don't use pedals as much with that amp.
