Has anyone tried the new alnico cream with the zwreck combo? What were your thoughts compared to the gold?

Better yet, I have cream so just send me your Zwreck and I'll do the rest. Seems like a fair deal, no?

I just got the cream alnico 2 days ago and have been trying to respond to you guys and figure out which amp it pairs best with. I put it in a 1x12 convertible cab open back with my Zwreck head. First off....I did not like it. It took a lot of the punch and thump away, which is what I love about the wreck and gold Celestion. Much more compressed as compared to the gold. To the point where the the overall perceived volume was less. Less attack responsive. The actual Celestion website says it delivers a "laid-back attack"....definitely true! Just my opinion, but I didn't care for it.
Now that's said, I really liked it with the Stangray and Ghia. Very smooth sound, which tamed the Rays high end. I never liked the gold in the Ray for that reason and have always used ceramics either creamback or a Two-rock speaker. I actually found myself able to turn up the cut knob with the cream alnico. Still learning the speaker, but that's my initial impressions.

Yeah, i'd never want to change the attack of the Zwreck through a Gold. It's perfect! So responsive yet sweet.

Yes...I' was wondering about the break in of this speaker too. I'll definitely keep giving it another try. Hopefully someone else can give it a whirl through the Zwreck for another opinion.

I can't imagine the Cream sounding anything but amazing with the Z Wreck.
Sounds awesome with my Therapy, Maz Jr, Germino Lead55 and Speed Shop Tweed Deluxe....

At first I was impressed with the Alnico Cream. But that wore a bit after hours of hearing it. The Cream lacks the brilliant chime of the Blue or Gold, is smoother and and slightly compressed. Works well for lead lines but suffers for rhythm, less articulated note definition.
Seemed to work great on loud 50 watt Marshall's. Nice single smooth sounding speaker able to handle high wattage. Just haven't found a home in a Z Amp yet.
Works well for taming a very bright amp, and would do well in a home environment. Creamy leads at a high price.

I agree with the Doc! I had an Alnico Cream in my Therapy, and it made the amp SOOOO dark. Ive got a new Z Speaker in there and it opened up a ton. Love it now!!! The Cream Alnicos really are super smooth.

I have a Galaxie head going into the 1x12 cab. Currently it houses a Celestion g12-65. I am looking to get more chime. Would you recommend the Blue or Gold. Everyone feel free to chime in.

The Cream Alnicos really are super smooth. I realize this is the Z Wreck thread, and I've been biting my tongue on this one all week. I realize everyone hears and wants to hear things differently, But I can't understand the above statement. I played my Therapy through a Gold for the first 9 months and loved it. Didn't think it could get any better....until I got my first Cream. I agree, they are super smooth...But I can't relate to making the Therapy dark. I can't turn my treble past noon. Too bright otherwise. I understand Doc's responses and he's the one that picks the speakers for his amps. I stand by my original statement and still think the Cream would sound awesome in the Z Wreck. Specifically the combo. To tame some of the highs and add a little bottom. Your opinion may vary. Remedy too for that matter. It may not be the tone the good Doc is aiming for, but these old ears like it smooth~

But until then my Galaxie with a a Gold will do just fine.

Prob great for a bright and aggressive amp you want to tame. The doc said he thought it was way too tame/smooth as well.

Well, i've never played a Z wreck until this afternoon. A buddy and I went out to lunch right next to a store that carries Dr. Z's. We went to the store afterwards to mess around and they had one of the new black Z wreck combos. We grabbed a custom shop Stratocaster and played through that Z wreck for about an hour. After we were done, we both agreed that this was the best amp either of us have ever played through. None others were even close. On the way home, we were scheming ways how we could come up with the dough for each of us to get one! One of the things we both loved about it was the high end sparkle/chime. I can't imagine doing anything to that amplifier that would de-emphasize that shimmery factor. It was absolutely perfect the way it was. We also both agreed that we liked it best with the attenuator on zero! Yeah – Sure it was loud, but man, it was BEAUTIFUL! Nothing but smiles from us.
