I'm trying to decide what speaker to pair with the Stingray before it arrives. My current setup is a Maz Jr. 1x12 combo and 1x12 extension cab, Emi Swamp Thang in the combo and Emi Tonker in the extension cab. I'm going to use the speakers in this setup with the 'Ray until I can afford to have a 2x12 cab custom made to match the 'Ray, so I'm wondering if this will be a good pair for it in the meantime. Now, here's my thoughts. Initially, I was in love with the Tonker and the Swamp, but lately it just seems like these speakers are just too efficient, very powerful. I'm thinking of putting the stock G12H's back in, as they were pretty well broken in and seemed to coax a sort of sweetness out of the Maz Jr, and they sound really warm as a pair. I'm also interested in pairing one of the G12H's with a V30, as I really liked the sounds of that combination when I had my Maz Sr. 2x12 combo. I don't know if I care for the V30 by itself, kind of a raunchy mid-rangey speaker on its own, but paired with the G12H it sounds great. So I guess a better question is which speakers that aren't too efficient will pair nicely with both the Maz Jr. and the 'Ray. Thanks guyZ, I always value your input. -Greg

Hi Greg, I think you would love the Celestion Blues if you are going to build a 2x12 cab. They would work great with the Maz18jr as well. As far as some other speakers in the meantime, I think the Weber Alnico Bluedogs would work great. Probably the 30 watt version. Heck even the Bluedog/Silverbell combo would work great with the Stingray. I am not sure if I would go with the 50 watt instead of the 30 watt speakers, but if you want less efficiency then the I would go with the latter. I am sure the G12H/Vintage30 combo would sound great as well.

What about pairing a Weber Blue or Silver with the G12H? Alnico or Ceramic? I've heard people complain that the Weber Alnico's sound too dark and compressed.

The weber alnico Silver pairs really well with the Celestion G12H. I pretty sure Jason Gleaton has that configuration in his Z-best cab.
