Brit,
Check out the Schecter Corsair while you hunt for a 335-like instrument.
I think Musicians Friend has them for about $750.
I played one in a store back in the spring and really liked it.

I picked up a used Epiphone 339 last summer. It's now my go to guitar, plays like a dream. Check out the reviews, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Frank, I've got one in sunburst. Musicians Friend had a deal on them some months back. (I prefer cherry, but there was no deal on them.) It's a nice guitar, especially for the $. Think mine was $349 shipped, but without a case. I haven't used it much lately, but I like having it on hand. I've been meaning to compare it to a Hamer Echotone that I own. That Hamer is another nice 335-type axe. Got it used for under $300 with HSC as I recall.

Eddie,
I bought the same guitar from Sweetwater, same color too. LOL. Hope you enjoy it, mine has had no issues whatsoever, and it sounds like a Les Paul should.
The Gibson '57 Classic pickups sealed the deal for me. And a hard shell case included, that was nice too.
Thanks, Gray

They are out of Cherry , which is my first choice , but will have them in 2 weeks.

Most expensive guitar I own is my les paul...I bought cause I just was achin for another real deal lester...that said I have real hard time pulling the trigger on expensive fender's...if I was flush I think a eric Johnson strat would be about the top of my trigger pulling.

In addition to 335-type and LP-type, I've found MIM Fenders, some Squiers and the PRS SE line to be excellent guitars for the money. Very playable. I have gigged with some of them with zero issues.

About 2 years ago I took a chance on a Chinese-made Gretsch ProJet with Bigsby for $600 from Sweetwater and was pleasantly surprised as it was pretty good out of the box. I had it set up with the strings I use (11-49s) and put a TV Jones Supertron at the neck and a TV Classic plus at the bridge; the result is a versatile instrument.

Congrats!
I think that China is coming into their own stride, much like Japan in the '70-80s.
I had a Squier CV Strat, very well made guitar, big bang for the buck. I also have a Yamaha nylon stringed acoustic, MIC and it's a great guitar.
I think that it's Eastman that's exclusively from China and are supposed to be nice guitars.

The Classic Vibe Squier Tele is a lot of guitar for the money! My local GC had one "used" for $299...still had the plastic on the neck pickup, and not a scratch on it. I only wish the neck had a little more substance to it...otherwise it would have gone home with me. Perfect setup, stayed in tune, and the pickups sounded surprisingly good!

My local GC has a MIM Special Edition Deluxe Ash Tele that I play every time I walk in and it will likely be my next one. I want to say it's right at $600. OP That Tribute looks very nice and I'd love to find one locally to test drive!

You know, I've noticed that cheap guitars are getting better and better...on the other hand the cost of all guitars is rising so maybe they are just investing more time and effort into them to keep them in line with the cost. I don't know what it is though, but when I'm playing a cheap guitar, no matter how well made it is, I can feel the difference...they just seem almost "lifeless" to me...its weird. A real Gibson is the only thing I'm truly happy with...maybe I'm just a snob . Oh and Zed, I had an Eastman once upon a time..very well built/finished, had that same sort of feeling for me though and I sold it quickly.

Gigged my Squier CV Tele as my main axe for two years - flawlessly. I'd stack it up against most USA Teles no problem at all! I changed the pups to Texas Specials, and changed them right back again.......... no need to change them at all. We just HAVE to wean ourselves off "brand" - we're most of us, terrible snobs about it, deep down, and that's what Henry's playing to........... but I'm out!

I wasn't a huge fan of the ceramic pickups and replaced them with Lollars (Special/Vintage T set) and it's my new #1. I get a lot of comments/complements on it wherever I take it. John
