I wasn't a huge Police fan, but I always appreciate what 3 musicians can do with some creativity and effects! Stellar filmography and sound as well. Cool video - thanks for the post.

I really like The Police. Once you get past the egos of old, the music is great. They were pretty prolific in their output. For me, I find their music today sounds fresh and not dated. I really like the guitar parts in the songs as well since they were sparse and different. I also like the use of the chorus and delays (I am a U2 fan too!). i still consider their Syncronicity album one of the top 3 pop/rock albums of the last 30 years. If it wasn't for the Andy Summers penned song 'Mother' I think it could be #1 ! Still one of my favourite pop/rock albums of all time. The tune ''Every Breath You Take" is timeless. i can see them not being everyone's cup 'o tea and that's ok

The riff to Message In A Bottle is up there with the classic's IMHO. if I plug into anything with a flanger or chorus and a strat or tele I can't resist playing it.

I saw the reunion tour. I remember three very specific things about it:
1) Sting's voice was SO powerful. Not just merely turned up in the mix. But the power, control and clarity he had. I don't know if I've ever heard such a voice in concert like that. I'm sure the sound guy got just the right eq and compression...etc. But still, he sounded great. I read the next day or so, a local concert review said that Sting strained his voice in the very first song..and struggled the rest of the evening. I sure didn't hear it!
2) Andy Summers is a terrible soloist. And when I say 'soloist'...think the traditional lead guitar rock thing.....like Clapton, Gilmore, Hendrix...etc. Summers is the master of the textured arpeggio and chord stuff. His sound defined that era...but when he tried to do the rock guitar solo thing...it was strange and something I felt he should not attempt.
3) Andy Summers' tone lacked that bright pop that's on the recordings. You can hear in the videos above, that his tone sounds a bit muffled.

^^^^^ Yeah, I agree that watching Summers 'solo' is a bit painful. I put both him and the Edge in the same pool with the chordal/atmospheric playing. Neither should be allowed to solo ! As well, Summers shouldn't be allowed to write (i.e., the song Mother on Synchronicity). I really like both players in contact of the bands/music, though...some of my favourite music (U2/Police). I don't mind the more muted tone in the above video though. I think it sounds fine. It's little more compressed than the recordings...but I still like it (80's chorus and all)
