Just tried it out for about 1/2 hour with the EZG--very smooth, lots of bass, round and slightly understated highs, lots of lower mid content but no brash or honky mid-upper mids. Ended up tweaking the amp EQ just a tad to give it a bit more T, a bit less M and B. Breaks up a lot sooner than the Z 4x10 I'm used to hearing with this amp. On a dark>bright scale, I'd say it leans slightly to the dark side, but the highs are very musical and don't seem muffled. I grabbed up a Strat for this first try out, but I'm thinking this would be a great speaker for any American style amp and a Tele. The slightly lower efficiency (98, I think?) makes it a nice fit for a bigger amp like the EZG--you can turn up a bit without rattling your neighbor's china cabinet. My sense is that there are no ice-pick highs available in this speaker (in fact the logo for it should be an ice-pick in a circle with a line through it). In all, two or even three thumbs up--sweet and soulful, no harsh tones even brand new out of the box, not too loud, great for your brighter guitars especially, and super reasonable cost-wise. A winner from Dr Z and the folks at Eminence.

I think I'm gonna set up my EZG 50 on top of my Z-LUX!

Go for it! Also, I'll bet the Z-12 would pair up real nice with a traditional Greenback.

Therapy on top of Z-Lux worth considering.

Might just tame the top end of the Therapy a bit, yes.

Mine sounded mighty good upon arrival, fwiw. I doubt it's broken in yet.

Any one try this with a Monza??? Now yer tawkin' !!!!! Inquiring minds want to know. I'm on the fence about the G12H mine came with. You really gotta crank that bad boy to get it working.

Yes, give me about 10 days and I'll let you know how it is. I'll run it both with my new 18 and my old 38...

Anybody tried it with the Ghia? If anybody also wants to send me a Ghia, I'd be happy to beat the brakes off of that one, too!!!

I'm wondering if this speaker isn't awfully close tonally to the G12-65; their response curves look very similar. Hmmm.... Has anyone done a comparison?

UPS delivered my new Maz 18 with the Dr Z 12" speaker this morning and I can echo EZG's statements above.
Very full, rounded and bassy-er tone than the G12H that's in my Monza cab. Very punchy, however, still plenty of shimmery and sparkly highs. It sounds like it's already broken in straight out of the box. No shrill highs to speak of. It definitely smoothed out the shrill top end you get from the G12H before you really get that magnet cooking. Low volumes, high volumes, it sounds pretty damn good.

Just an update after a week of messing around with both.
The 12" Z speaker officially went in the Monza and the G12H went in the Maz 18 today. The Monza definitely likes the Z speaker more than it likes the G12H. Really rounds off the tone at lower volumes. I found that I really wasn't a fan of the G12H in the Monza until I got that master up around at least 9 o'clock. The Maz, while it also loves the Z speaker, is more accepting of the G12H at all volumes.
I'm still on the fence about the G12H. I may buy another 12" Z to put back into the Maz cab or maybe try something else. I really wish I could take the 2x10 out of the Maz 38 and drop that in the 18!!!
Also, both speakers are no where near broken in yet, so we'll check back in another couple weeks!!!

My Z 12" isn't broken yet either, but that seems less crucial with this particular speaker. I've tried it really too briefly with my Maz 8, but I really enjoyed what I heard. It has a round but still clear and define touch to it and a wonderfull bottom end. It really suit the Maz well. I really could have this speaker in this combo and be more than happy with it, even if I do absolutely love the Scumback Scumnico I have in it for a while. I haven't tried my Z-Lux into another speaker yet, so I can't really tell what does the speaker in this one, but I like the whole equation and don't plan to spoil anything about it!

Last night I took my new Headbone amp switcher to rehearsal, and used it to go between my Z-Lux combo with the Z-12 speaker, and my Monza on top of the Z-Lux. The Z-12 sounds great with both amplifiers...it's rich and clear with the Z-Lux, and spanky, tight, and throaty with the Monza. Really makes for a flexible rig, especially with the Z-Drive in line to the Z-Lux. I have a terrific rhythm tone that I can get two levels of overdrive with the pedal, then if I hit the Headbone I go to the coolest lead tones I've ever had. I used my 335 last night and it flat out sings with the Monza/Z-12 combination. The more I use this speaker the better I like it.

I have two of them and LOVE them! Especially in a Z convertible cab.

Irreversal (Frank): "I really wish I could take the 2x10 out of the Maz 38 and drop that in the 18!!!" I may be understanding this wrong, but if what you are saying is you would like to use the Maz 18 with the 210 in the 38, why don't you just swap the chassis of the the two amps in the cabs? That way you get the 18 with the 210 (my favorite combo) and the 38 with the 112. They both use the same chassis.
