Hey guys,
I just decided I should join here, I've been a long time lurker here. I'm fairly active on other well known forums, but I've really been wanting to join here as well. Let me start off by saying that I'm not a Z owner YET! I intend to change that very soon, with your help of course. I'm a tele-twanger at heart, I've played a Tele since I was 4 years old. But my musical interests take me everywhere from twang and country, to progressive rock/metal/fusion and everything in between. I've played the Laney GH/VH series amps for about 6 years now, And I've never been fully satisfied with all the aspects of my tone. They've always got the job done though. What started my passion for Dr. Z's was the 6545. I was playing a show, and the club owner actually had a 6545 sitting on top of the FOH Board. It looked cool, and we had a while before doors, so I ask if I could play through it. It was an awesome experience. I never have felt so close to the sounds I was making with the guitar. It was just perfect. I was using my pedal board which had a plethora of OD's I used to get anything good out of the Laneys, and a few other effects. I only played through it for about 10 minutes maybe, but that was enough for me. Now again, I'm looking for some guidance hear. I'm wanting my first Dr. Z to be an amp more geared for High gain and Overdrive. I rarely play with a pristine sparkly clean tone. I like an amp that gets me 75% of the way to the gain I need, and be able to back it off, or add to it with pedals.
So a few amps I know of that fit the higher gain Bill are:
SRZ
Mazerati GT
Monza
I need something that will get me to a Paul Gilbert/Guthrie Govan style of gain and overdrive. If you guys could tell me what would beat suit my needs, I would greatly appreciate it.
Here's actually a great example of the type of music and playing I do, his name is Sam Birchall. He's an Incredible guitar player. In all his videos he's using a Kemper Profiler with a Maz 38 Profile by Mitch Malloy. Can I get tones like that, with maybe a bit more gain out of a Maz or any of the other ones I listed?
Thanks for the help!
