I tried to post this in the Bass forum but it's password protected and I don't know the secret handshake. We have an acoustic trio. Our bass player normally uses his regular rig and it works fine, but we have a recurring gig at a place that gets really busy and crowded in the summer. We're pushed into a corner and it's really cramped, and the less space we take up (and the less gear we bring in) the better. I'm wondering if one of those acoustic bass guitar gizmos would work for this situation, with no amp direct into PA. Our PA speakers are robust (Yamaha DXR12's), and we usually have one on a stick and one on a floor. Mind you, this is a low volume restaurant/bar gig, so we don't need lots of volume or earth shaking low end. Anyone have experiences with acoustic basses? Are there any "budget" models that are even worth looking at? This would be used 1-2 times per month for this gig only. I know nutin' about 'em. This is a Mexican place and they have the best pico de gallo I've ever had. Nice folks too - they send us home with some .

Not a fan of acoustic basses, personally. To me, they lack the oomph and sustain that I'm used to hearing from the bass. Look into the Sans Amp Bass Driver DI pedal. Our bass player went from an old, big, heavy as hell rig to one of these straight in to the PA. Sounds great. He loves it from the standpoint of loading in and setting up, and so do we. And the sound is just as good as from his previous rig.

Yes, with a full PA and subs. Haven't tried it without a sub. Fwiw, most of our gigs are low volume. If there is room, I'd suggest squeezing in one sub. It would definitely give you a richer, more full overall sound. It might be a little thin without some low end. Another suggestion is one of those little Markbass combo amps. Those things are small but sound amazingly good. I know they even have a little 1x8 version. But, even the 1x12 is small. Check 'em out. Awesome sounding bass amps.

If you can find a good preowned Traynor Small Bloc 1x10 cheap, around $150.00, you'll never have a volume issue. I picked one up last summer and love it. It weighs 21 lbs and is 14x14x14 inches. My old Ampeg B15 N will hopefully be on its way to a new home.
