I must say that my proco y split ii speaker cable recomended on the faq page of drzamps.com for connecting 2 cabs at the same time brings a noticeable volume AND tone drop to the head/speaker connection configuration. It does add headroom to have more speakers in the equation, but the tone gets a little destroyed and the oomph dissipates. I use it sometimes with either my antidote or carmen ghia, connecting to a 2x10 zcab and a 4x10 zcab simultaneously...

If your connecting a 2X10 Z cab ( 8 ohm ) and a 4X10 Z cab ( 4 ohm ) I can understand the mismatch and tone suck. Anyways try a PCNS Y cable I love them.

I have one also and I do see a volume drop, but that is because o the extra load I'm guessing. I never noticed any tone loss though (Z28 & Remedy or Maz 18 when I had it)

Is it a series or parallel wired Y cable.

Is it a series or parallel wired Y cable. It is a parallel wired cable. The cabs are 8ohms both. And I connect the cable to the 4ohms out of the amp. I know my equipment and the way it should be set up. 1. Either the cable is not working at its best or is somewhat damaged (I doubt it). 2. The experiment doesn't work as recommended. Or 3. The tonal combination of the two cabs simply makes it sound thinner. I personally think its something power related. It does feel as if it is simply not pushing the air the same way as when they are connected to each of the cabs individually which sounds kind of louder or more powerfull. Nonetheless maybe its simply a perceptual thing and theres more cleaner headroom involved or something like that which makes me think otherwise...

The cabs might be out of phase with each other.

I have done some tests and its definitely a perceptual thing based on the fact that its a 45 watts amp pushing air for 6 x 10" speakers and the 2x10 z speakers are very different from the 4x10 ramrods. Not only that, i think the construction of both cabs support tonal differences. The guys from PCNS kindly offered me to trade me the version I curently have for the JUMBO one. Great customer support.
Thanks for the responses.

The cabs might be out of phase with each other. I would suspect this also

I was going to say phase as well. Pull the cable out of the amp, shine a flashlight through the grill of each cab in turn and see which way the speakers jump when you touch a 9 volt battery to the plug. If they jump opposite directions, you need to make a change somewhere to take the phase difference into account. If one of the cabs has clip on terminals, that would be the easiest place to swap.
