Went to see "Unbroken" Friday night and "American Sniper" last night. Both were good and gave me flag-waving moments, but I think Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) out directed Clint Eastwood (American Sniper). Actors were all good especially in Unbroken, and war scenes were quite realistic.
I would recommend both, if you have the ability to tolerate violence and cruelty. Both flicks are painful to watch (probably because they're both based on the truth).

I'm slow to watching movies, but speaking of hard to watch, I just watched 12 Years A Slave the other night at home and not only was it a beautifully filmed movie but it was filmed in a really powerful way that forced you to see something you wouldn't want to otherwise.
Movies are a powerful format for art and emotion. Clint Eastwood has been a real surprise to me over the years with everything he's done and directed. Angelina Jolie is a new surprise for me...I didn't know she was directing stuff. I hope to get a chance to see "Unbroken". The lives some people have lived are almost unimaginable. Then they make a movie about it and it's like you're there.

"....I just watched 12 Years A Slave ...." That, my friend, is one of the best films ever made. IMHO.....

Saw unbroken on Friday. Good movie. Tried to see American Sniper yesterday but it was sold out so ended up seeing Taken3. It was good as well.

"....I just watched 12 Years A Slave ...." That, my friend, is one of the best films ever made. IMHO..... I think watching it was especially powerful to me because I just had watched Gone With The Wind again a day or two before and the stark contrast between the two is a telling tale to those of us in the era looking back to understand our early countrymen.
