So, I added a Lollar Gold Foil to the neck position of my Telecaster (Grosh RCVT, to be specific). I've had this guitar for years, and have always struggled with the balance of volume and tone between the neck and bridge pickup. The bridge is a Lollar Special T, which I really like. Its pretty warm for a Tele bridge - I'm not much of a "twang" guy. In the past, I had an underwound Lollar p-90 in there. It always overpowered the Special, even when I had it lowered to pickguard level. I really like p-90s, though, so I lived with it. More recently, I had a Lollar Vintage T in there. I had the reverse problem - the Special was overpowering, even with the neck pickup raisedalmost to the stings. Sigh. Enter the Gold Foil! I loved the clips on their site, and they will sell it mounted in a p-90 case (sort of like the old Gibson LP Deluxes did with the minihums). I figured no routing, and I have the guard, so why not? It's perfect! Sounds a bit like a p-90 with a little more top & bottom end, and a little less midrange snarl. It's really clear (really clear!), sustains nicely, and sounds great with both of my amps. Plus, it pairs with the Special perfectly - no volume issues at all, with the Gold Foil at a medium height. Oh, and it looks pretty killer, if you ask me.

Looking good in gold! I'm a fan of the Lollar Special T for the same reason as you - I'm not a big twang guy.

I love his take on the T style body with that guitar. It's so cool looking and now you went all Ry Cooder on it and it's sexier than stock. Dangit!

I checked out a couple of demos of the Gold Foil on youTube--very cool, retro-sounding pickup.

I love his take on the T style body with that guitar. It's so cool looking and now you went all Ry Cooder on it and it's sexier than stock. Dangit! This guitar was my "gateway drug" into nice guitars. I got it about 4 years ago, at a time I only had my Strat, and a tele parts caster I built (on second thought, I may have had my Eastman too). I had heard lots of good things about Grosh, and had come into some extra cash. I got a screaming deal on this because it had odd, not stock pickups, had been routed (pro job) for a larger neck pickup, and had the wider (1 11/16) nut, which I always like. From the first strum, I got it. I finally knew what a nice guitar was supposed to feel and sound like. Unfortunately, my realization has cost me a lot of cash, as I have picked up a few other really nice pieces (Grosh x2, Eastman, Kauer) since then. I've changed neck pickups in that tele a ton of times now - If I recall correctly, I've gone p-90, mini hum, p-90, vintage T, and now the gold foil. None of those sound bad, but I really like the clarity of the gold foil so far. Its a bit like what you'd expect if a p-90 and a Strat pickup had a baby. Or something.like that.
