After watching the video I have this question. Is the volume coming out of the speaker the same regardless of a lesser gain tube?
I saw the correlation of volts/wattage decrease and saw the volume knob being turned up to match the same as an AX7 but there was no mention of volume levels.
My concern is if you have a low wattage amp like 4-5 watt rating,
by changing the pre-amp tube to a lesser gain tube will the overall volume at the speaker be affected?

I have a little 5 watt hand wired amp which started life as an epiphone junior with only original parts now being transformers. when I first got it back from the builder l found it had too much gain too soon and asked him to fit a lower gain input for humbuckers. He asked me to just try a 5751 or 12AU7 first and all this did is move the point at which gain comes on higher up the dial and at the same volume level. it was really like changing the sweep of the volume pot to a more useful range. l soon realised that turning the guitar volume control down was the most effective tool as after about a third of the volume was on it just got more saturated with little volume increase but as you decreased the guitar volume it got cleaner but lost little overall volume. Ended up with a 5751 as the best compromise purely for tone rather than gain over a 12AX7.
