I had been searching for a couple of spare retaining wires as the one on my original R8 ABR was seriously bent and misshaped and rattled annoyingly (solved with a locking Faber)and can't find any for sale in UK. I am returning my R8 to stock so want to refit the original bridge and fit Gibson burstbuckers 2 and 3 as l want the Wolfetones in my 335. When researching what would have been the stock pickups l came across a thread about retaining wires. Couldn't be simpler. Use an 017 or 018 plain string and make your own. Took me a couple of attempts but just the surplus cut off from changing strings is sufficient for 2 but could always use an old string. Hope this helps someone else.

Yeah I've made a few out of guitar strings before...definitely a bit of trial-and-error, but it works.
