Hey guys, I have a Monza MV head running into a avatar signature 1x12 cab with a celestion creamback in it. When I push the amp about halfway I start to get some higher pitch vibration noise (have pinpointed that it is coming from the preamp tubes). When I take the retainers off of the preamp tubes it goes away.
Emailed the guys over at Z. They told me to take the retainer off, remove the spring, do a bead of silicone around the bottom of the shield, let it set and replace the spring.
Although this did help some it has not fully fixed the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean the little chrome things that cover the 12ax7's .... i just take mine off and leave them off. Sorry but that is my only tidbit of 'help'

Sorry but that is my only tidbit of 'help' I've always been taught I need some type of tube retainer. You just keep them off? I'm on the road a good bit and although my tubes are very tight and secure in the socket feel as if not having one on could possibly create an issue at some point.

Well, I totally get what you are saying and maybe if I was on the road all the time and felt like they were in danger of being broken I'd want to keep them on, but I've always with every brand of amp that had them heard them rattle and so I've just took them off and never put them back on. The tubes aren't going to fall out or anything. Obviously the retainers for the EL84's are different and seem to hold the tubes better but those little silver things that go over the preamp tubes in a combo always seemed to cause noise for me.
Maybe someone else with more road experience will chime in and help with some other suggestions here. For me traveling is just to weekly rehearsal and to a few gigs a month with no troubles. Which is a lot different than life on the road.
Plus the Monza is such an animal I just took it out of the combo all together and put it in a head. It just seemed like at the volumes I generally play at that the tube life would be minimal in a combo, but in the head they are not getting blasted so much.
