Hi,I usually play a maz jnr reverb head and 2x10 cab which is great for gig's and am very happy with.I don't like pedals so usually just turn the amp up loud and use the guitars volume pot to control clean/dirty. However I may have the opportunity to pick up a m12 1x10 combo and I was wondering how it differs tonewise to the maz? I know it's touted as a pedal platform amp so how does it fare as a standalone guitar straight into amp setup? Thank's in advance any advice would be great cheers llew.
i can't speak for the 1x10 combo but my M12 head sounds fantastic straight into my 1x12 and my 2x12. Everyone that has played the M12 loves the fact that it has the perfect amount of breakup when it is cranked and also has lots of clean headroom. if I use an overdrive at all it is a boost.

I would say the M12 is closer to being a mini wreck than a Maz Jr. Very responsive to touch.
It is also a bit of a chameleon and it really responds well to pedals designed to emulate other amps. I can go from AC tone to plexi with the stomp of a pedal...
Keep the tone knobs below noon and you have a lot of clean volume on tap. Cranking those knobs, which adds gain, along with a fairly high volume setting gives good breakup. Very controllable from the guitar.

Well, for one, the M12 is going to be WAY quieter overall than your MAZ. You'll be able to turn the VOL up way higher than you're used to on the MAZ--which is fine, 'cause the M12 sounds pretty sweet the higher you go. You will also be able to use the M12 at low volume like you've never used a tube amp before.

GuitarZ: Carrying batteries for backup in the gig bag is great until you realize you can't free one of those little CR2032 buggers without a pair of scissors. And, that's after you free it from the outer packaging.
