Has anyone give these sort of new Groove Tubes 5751M's a try?
I'm a big fan of the 5751 and have always used NOS, but am curious as to whether or not this new production tube realistically compares to the NOS variants.
All opinions appreciated.

I'm a big fan of 5751's and use NOS myself. I have installed them in customers Fender Hot Rod amps, and they work wonders. But to my ear NOS is better, and really not a whole lot more expensive.

...i used the 5751M in a 4 el 84 head (Winfield) and it really helped to tame the inherent brightness/harshness of the amp...i felt it was a good sounding 5751 but the 20 dollar JAN 5751 that Mike at KCA sells is hard to beat for the $....

Yeah, those JAN GE's are really nice. I've used a bunch of those as well as others a bit further up the price scale.
I've just been curious about the Groove Tubes new production so thanks for responding.
And yup, Mike never steers you wrong.

I've got two of 'em in my Ghia and they're very warm and smooth...havent a/b'd against NOS though. They're definately a good tube in their own right, but NOS may be still better.

I still personally get my 5751s from Mike at KCA. I hear a difference between the 5751M and NOS and a real 5751 had to pass a 600G shock test as they were a military / industrial tube. They were also all very well balanced as this was another govt. requirement. Considering how long they last (the NOS ones) and how cheap they are even when you look at the RCA command series ..... and their tone and service life, I see no reason to not go NOS.
