Anyone catch The World Wars on History Channel? It's a three part series, each part is two hours. I watched them all and caught the third part last night. I thought it was pretty well done and very interesting. They did seem to leave out some things I feel important, and skim over what I feel were real turning points, like the battle of Midway. But it would be impossible to cover everything that happened in both world wars in extreme detail in 6 hours. Overall I really enjoyed it. It had some interesting behind the scenes things I never knew about.
Its scary to think how close we all came to be living in a very different world. The series really conveyed that message well.

Its scary to think how close we all came to be living in a very different world. Very well said. Few people realize/remember that chilling thought! We came quite close to losing everything we hold dear.......

I agree. You should check it out Lee. You'd like it I'm sure. I was getting shivers at points. They really did a good job with it.

I thought it was great, too. I learned more than I thought I would from it.

The main problem with anything presented on TV is that it has to be entertaining first and informative second. Remember that the reason TV exists is to sell advertising so it needs to appeal to the largest audience possible (lowest common denominator). Considering those limitations they did a fine job. Too bad that most people haven't already learned the history of that period in school.
I have to stop now. Someone took my soapbox.

A lot a history I learned as a child has been revised, I don't disagree with the entertain first with tv/ movies etc... Personally, I'll watch programs but also research the Hollywood translation... An interesting read is about the CIA's involvement in war type movies since the late 50's. Some interesting tidbits I could post but with respect to the mods I'll leave it at that if anyone's interested to check out.
