hey fellas...been rockin the Antidoe with the Z-12/ loaded with a cream back for a few months now...liking it alot. But, I have a WGS blackhawk 50, TT H1E alnico, And Scumback G12H "type" speaker. I'd like to give them speakers a try also. If the least wattage they are rated for is 50 watts? Do I stande to blow em with the dote.? I'm pretty sure the WGS and TT are only rated for 50 watts. I read on the webs once..sigh, that the speakers should be rated for darn near almost twice the rate of the amp. But then I had a Maz sr with the 30 watt rated stock celestion speacker in it? I'd like to try thes speakers , but dont want to burn em up............any thoughts? Mike

With two fifty watt speakers you can run up to a 100 watt amp through them. The general rule in a two speaker configuration is you can run twice the wattage of the lowest rated speaker. With one speaker you can run up to its power rating. 50 watt speaker, 50 watt amp. I have found that you can generally run a little more than the speaker is rated at as long as there isn't a ton of distortion in your signal and the output isn't continuous at full power. I ran a 30 watt celestion in a 60 watt Mesa IIB for years and its still going. However at that point you blow up your speakers at your own risk.

^^^^^ ha, well basically.....I want to put ONE 50 watt speaker in an amp thats rated at 45watts.....and turn it up as loud as I want for as long as I want...if thats not prudent...then cool, I'll either waite till I get a 2/12 cab to load em in...sell em....or they sit at the end of the hallway

I would do it without blinking an eye. If you are just using the amp full up or the amp with a boost or distortion I really don't think it will be a problem. The 50 watt rating means it should take that all day long. Most guitar speaker makers rate their speakers at less than they will actually take. Also if you backoff for a bit during a song with dynamics or stop for a minute between songs it gives the speaker time to dissipate some heat which is what usually fries a speaker.

thats cool...ya know , color me stupid....but for many years I just went with the asssumption that if you have an amp rated x amount of watts, and you had a speaker that wass atleast rated for that same number or even a bit more....I figured it was covered..... then the interwebs came along.....and the math all seemed to change, and maybe thats correct in some applications, who do ya beleive?

This is good to know. Ive been thinking about a dote lately and if I did get one I would want to pair it with a single Gold.
