One subject I haven't seen addressed anywhere is whether or not "Standby" hours affect the life of your power tubes.
As a gigging player, my amps spend a lot of time on standby. Breaks between sets, at rehearsals, etc.......
I was wondering if anyone knows if all the hours your amp is on standby degrade the performance of the power tubes.
I remember reading somewhere that EL84 equipped amps run a much higher plate voltage than other tubes, therefore the standby function in these amps really doesn't do much except kill the volume.
However, I have noticed that in my 6L6, 6550, and EL34 equipped amps, the light really gets dimmer in the tubes when I hit the standby switch....
Any info would be greatly appreciated.........
THX..........

I'm certain when you hit standby it shuts off the plate juice in all amps and tube types leaving only the heaters on so I would say standby time is not "use" time . Will not use up tube life with the exception of a heater filliment blowing or some other internal failure .

I have heard some discussion of this on previous posts. Nitehawk is correct.
