Well now that my Z Wreck issue has been fixed I wanted to try out my recently acquired pedal with my Wreck- the EH Soul Food.
Like any pedal, some of the dynamics of the Z Wreck are lost when you stomp on the box. But the pedal does sound pretty darn good - especially at unity volume with the amp! There is a a slight coloring of the tone as well - but I challenge anyone to show me a TRUE transparent overdrive! It's certainly not bad to my ears!
Here was my favorite setting: Volume at 10 o'clock, Drive and Treble both at 1 o'clock. this was with the amp set at 9 o'clock on the volume, cut, bass and treble all at 12 with the speed setting, attenuated -8db using a THD Hotplate.
Can't believe a $60 pedal sounds so good!

I like pedals that "color" my tone, that's why I get them. There are some colors I don't like, but for the most part I get them to achieve different tones. My favorite pedal is my Paisley drive and it's basically a hot-rodded TS pedal. While it's a refined TS pedal, it still has some of those classic mids.
I think the only way you'd get true, un-clored, overdrive with a pedal is by using a clean boost to push your preamp harder.
I've never understood the whole "transparent" overdrive thing myself??
On a side, but similar note: The Z-Wreck sounds great with just about any type of drive pedal you throw at it.

As a matter of fact the Paisley is my favorite od pedal as well. its so versatile and works well with all guitars and amps I throw at it with just a few tweaks of the knows and switches! Cheers! J5
