Myles I know this is the Dr Z forum and I'm getting to try one in October, but in the meantime I'm recording using a Peavey Classic 112 and I think it's time for a valve change (the first). I've looked at various forums and really am no wiser after all the different opinions, I'm not even sure if thats whats making it a bit dull but it's worth a try. What do you recommend for the pre amp or would it be worthwhile changing all the valves, there's still plenty of volume and it's mainly only been used for recording. Cheers.

You have to remember that most of the folks here that own Z amps just might own another amp or two Tell me what tubes are in the amp now and we can go from there.

Miles..it has 3 12AX7 valves that are unmarked except for a small sticker that says made in China, and 4 Sovteks made in Russia and marked EL84/6605. I took a picture of 2 of them but I can't figure out how to include it in the reply, I think it needs a URL.

Try a 12AX7R3 in V1 and loose the Sovtek EL84's and replace with a set of EL84S in a #5-6 rating.
