Just picked up a BB preamp based on reviews and You Tube vids. This combined with my recent Marshall 1965B 4x10 cab pickup has helped tailor my sound to about 99% of where I want it to be. Still having a little issue with Ice-pickiness with my Les Paul bridge pickup...but that's another story for another day. What I like so far is that with the BB is that the base tone that I've dialed in on the Maz is retained. It adds a little "thickness" and depth to my sound. The way I describe it is it sounds more "professional" if you get my meaning. I guess what I'm hearing is the Transparency that I've always heard about, but never could wrap my head around. I'm even able to get some pretty highish gain sounds fairly easily. It's by far the most $$$ I've spent on a pedal, but so far it seems worth every penny. All the Knobs are very usable, with none of the extremes being over done. I play mostly "Classic Rock" which I refer to as Rock LOL, and it just seems to shine. Not that any tone quest is really ever over, but I'm pretty darn close. I'm a believer.

I'm not really a pedal guy so this was quite a revelation for me. What was great was the tone I found didn't take much knob twiddling. So far so good. My wife laughs at me because I come up from my office\music room after about an hour of playing with a big goofy grin on my face. I'm pathetic LOL.

I know what you mean about the transparency of the BB Phil, that was my first impression of it as well. That and how it's really defined and unmuddy.
Glad you are happy with yours!

I find it to be true about the transparency and the "professional" sound quality they impart for all 3 of the "Tremendous Trio" : RC,AC and BB. And I wasn't a pedal guy either....Until Mark N started me down the path of perdition with his demo vids Wallet killer!!

Brit- what got me interested was Prymaxe's videos. They often use a Maz set clean-to-slight breakup. For the BB they used an LP (my primary guitar) for an extensive knob turning part of the video. Even with computer speakers I was blown away. That started my research. Almost every video and forum posting helped push me over the edge. So far so good. For reference on the "Tremendous Trio", find JD Simo's videos showing how he uses them. Good stuff, even though he could make anything sound glorious.

To me the BB is similar to the OCD only better. Although I think it a little noisier though.

I've had this pedal for a month now and I keep finding new sounds. My favorite so far has been Gain at 10:00, treble 11:00 and bass at 1:00. The real magic for ME is using these settings with a rather higher volume level on the pedal. I guess it really slams the front end.....in a good way. The amp itself is set with my Les Paul-Cut 3:00 or higher, master 11:00, bass and mid at 12:00 treble at 1:00. Holy Moley this combo for ME really is the sweet spot. Woohoo! The only draw back is I can only use these settings when nobody is home. Hee hee hee.

Hey everyone, little late to the op, I play a vl sparkledrive through my 2x12 combo and think its perfect. Does anyone own both the bb pre & the sparkledrive who can compare the two? Thanks.

I had a Sparkle drive...been a long time since owning it. It was nice...I liked the blend knob. It was a bit heavy in the mids...maybe a little more than I wanted. I find the BB compresses a tad more, perhaps a little more transparent and having the bass knob really adds some oomph. Nothing wrong with the Sparkle drive though, it's a cool pedal...I like the BB a bit more.

Thanks Mark; that's interesting you say the bb is more transparent. I was thinkin tonight playin a lp thru the low side that of the od pedals I've tried, the sd was the most trans., and almost like it was just turning up the gain and volume on the amp itself! Maybe it's just the amp settings the sd is jumpin on, but it is beautiful. Maybe I just got a good one! I will be buying a bb, sounds great in Andy Timmons' rig.

You very well could be right that the SD is more transparent than the BB...it's been so long since I owned that pedal. I loved that Blend knob on the SD! Go with the one that grabs you most or better yet, go with both!

I have owned my BB Preamp for quite a while now and really like it with any amp. I have used it with a Maz Jr and the two together really rock. I have no plans to sell the BB as it works well for me. I use it for heavier distortion where I have an AC Booster that I use for light overdrive.

Joek It varies depending on what I'm going for. Lately its been 9:00 to 11:00, so fairly clean. I've also experimented going through the low input on the Maz. That sounds pretty good too. For hard rock tones, I'll run the volume on the BB really high. I'm finding the BB along with the Maz extremely versitile.
Hope this helps.
