I can't wait to get my hands on my guitar and plug into my Z -wreck combo. I know the Z-Wreck has a unique Overdrive tone and its a plug and play amp. Thats Great for me because I have gravitated away from my pedals playing live. I really like the ability to go from clean to scream just by rolling up my guitar volume. Lately I been plugging straight into my Fender Vibro King and just using my tone knobs on my guitar and its just wonderful. I attend to do the same thing when I gig with my Z- Wreck!
So tell me Z-Wreck owners how would you describe the clean tone on the Wreck?

I can't say that I've ever heard a more 3-D, gorgeous clean from any amp I've ever played. It has tremendous touch sustain even when you don't pick hard. Really special. I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

The Z-Wreck cleans are really good! Usually, I need to add a bit of grit to my clean tone to cut through the mix and to help it sustain a little. But not with the Z-Wreck, it has a really great sustain and enough power to cut through any mix, but it won't stick out like a "boxy" amp. It's a little stiffer feeling until you can turn it up some (to about 2 or above), which just adds to the magic of this amp in a band sitting.
I've had a couple StangRays prior to the Z-Wreck, and to me that has been the ultimate clean amp that I thought no other amp could beat. I can't say that the Z-wreck is a beautiful as the Ray's clean tone, but it is every bit just as good but in different ways.
I live in the clean-ish zone on my amps, so I need an amp with a good clean tone that can take pedals well.... So far, the Z-Wreck has gone above and beyond all my expectations.

That is why I like the Vibro King so much it has 3 10 inch speakers. Why 3 instead of 4 I dont know but Bruce Zinky new what he was doing it works. It has a big full 3D like sound. Those are the type of amps I love.

Do you use pedals with yours or most of the time just plug straight in?

I play in a, mostly, cover band that requires several levels of drive.... So I use my pedal board that is heavy on dirt pedals and have the Z-Wreck set up pretty clean for a pedal platform. We go from old Merle Haggard to Skynyrd to Bob Seager to the Ventrues to Blink 182 and Nickleback, in about that order sometimes.
I've always been a "pedal" guy, some things are just hard to get away from. I set them all at unity, so the volume is about the same across the spectrum...... So my clean tone from the amp is the same volume as all my dirt tones from my pedals. I have a clean boost at the end of the chain that I use as a volume boost.

Rev.... The cleans on this amp are like bells ringing. (well not like bells) It's very sensitive to your attack but even when you dig in it can maintain a level of note clarity that I've never heard from an amp before... And the harmonic overtones on certain notes just inspire you to want to play!
When I used it at a gig last week the other guitar player couldn't believe I was using a 1 x 12 cabinet. It just sounds so huge...
Your in for a treat!

The wreck is my go to amp when I just feel like plugging in and playing clean. It's more responsive than any other amp that I've tried. I actually get lost playing thru it and wonder where the time went when I finally look up at the clock, LOL. It's my favorite amp by far.

Your question is how "Good" is the Wreck's clean....not how "Clean" are the cleans. I do NOT think the Wreck's clean tones are as clean as the Ray, but I think they're better. I always lumped the Ray and Twin Reverb cleans in the same category (pure, crystalline cleans)....almost too clean.
The Wreck's cleans tho seem more organic with just a bit of hair in the mids at moderate volumes and a bit of "rounding off" of the treble spikes as well. It's so pleasing, you can get away with playing a Z-wreck pretty darn loud. Volume levels that would normally get you kicked out of a gig seem to be tolerated if you're playing a Z Wreck.....The tone is just THAT nice.... (Celestion Gold highly recommended)

I think the Z Wreck shines best when cranked to at least 10am on the volume dial... That's a little crunch with single coils and more dirt with humbuckers. Then roll the guitar volume back for crystal clear cleans...
A true plug & play amp... I do like to use a clean boost for even more drive...but less is more with the Z Wreck-
Some one said a few years ago that the cleans sounded silvery & shimmery..... That described it great!
I know how you feel Rev Randy!!! This is just tiding you over till the big day.... So when is the big day anyway??

I really like the ability to go from clean to scream just by rolling up my guitar volume. Brother, your in for a treat! I'm a LP guy so my idea of clean might be different than yours. The cleans are fantasti IMO, maybe I should say "cleans". I like the amp volume anywhere between 10:30-noon. Guitar volume control works exceptional with this amp. I typically use my GV volume alot, and not really any dirt pedals on a usual basis. But a funny thing happened after I got the amp..... I've been using my GV a lot less and concentrating on pick pressure to clean it up, or dirty it up. Strumming lightly for a real nice clean, then digging in almost sounds like I kicked on a tube screamer or something. Love it. It's really teaching me about pick pressure on the strings! Lots of fun.

Man you guys are telling me what I want to hear. I like the rounding off of the treble spikes and organic references. I bought the combo. The fact that it comes with a gold was also a heavy influence on my purchase. Great speaker for that type of tone.
