I just got back from picking up a nicely used Marshall 1965B cab. sounded great in the store. After a little haggling I walked out with it for$200. Now, I don't know if the original speakers are in it, but WOW! I was ready to give up on my maz, but holy guaccamole, it's like I bought a new amp. I guess 10s are the ticket. I can't wait until tomorrow when I can really crank it up.
Right off the bat I noticed a big increase in volume along with much more clarity. So much volume that at home(9:15pm) I barely had the volume at 8:00 and it sounded frikken awesome. I was using two 1x12 Egnater cabs with 70/80s. Now Lots of punch and my neck pickup isn't as "muddy". I had actually put the amp on craigslist so that I could buy something different. Not no more as Lt. Cluseau would say. I think I finally found what the Maz was missing. I highly recomend trying 10s. I'm excited about playing again.

Love those 1965 cabinets. I have a green one.

I bit of an update. Opened the back up and it looks like the original speakers. However, there looks to be a crack in the wood at the base of the cabinet. Its the part that "sits" on the floor. There is not enough slack in the jack connection for me to really inspect in. I'm a little bummed out. It sounds fine, but I'm just a little worried that it won't hold up with use. I've got a few days to decide whether to keep it or not.

I have a Sonic slant 4X10 with the same speakers as the Marshalls..G10L-35's. GREAT-sounding cab with every amp I've ever put through it. If it was me, I wouldn't worry too much about the crack...that could be stabilized with some filler or a thin patch without affecting the sound, and that's a price you probably wouldn't find again on that cab.

I bought a 1965 cab years ago for cheap that had a blown speaker. Just put some Eminence Ramrods in it and absolute WOW. Such a great tone. My Strat has has some piano like qualities showing up. The Ramrods are rated @ 75 watts so all the breakup comes from tubes or pedals. No really a casino friendly cab so i wait for the right gig.

Well, I decided to take the back completely off. To my surprise and relief it's not cracked. It was a strand of grill cloth that was stuck to that bottom piece. It's a keeper!
