I'm looking at a 90's model Maz 38 reverb amp for $900. The tolex is BADLY torn up...it has seen alot of road wear...it even spent time as a house amp at a renowned country bar for many years. It was recently serviced and given a clean bill of health by a local amp tech. That being said, I spoke to the guy, offered $700, and he said he didn't want to go that low. I contacted Mojotone, and they said they could do a complete re-cover for $150, plus the cost of new hardware (handle, corners). Was thinking about making another offer of $750 or $800, that way I could have a completely refurbished Maz 38 for about $1000. Thoughts? Is it a waste of $$...should I just wait around for another one?

$1,000 is about right for a Maz 38 head though there are not a lot that come up for sale so a 1x12 combo is a good price. If you are not in a hurry you should be able to pick up an all original one in good condition for about the same price.
what speaker is in the amp? That will also make a difference

1K is in the ballpark of a good deal on a 1-12 Heads go for 9-1K or so... this all depends on the market, sometimes there are MAZ all over, then not so much and always more 18's than 38's... After many Z amps I came back to where I started..MAZ38NR only this time in a head... MUCH easier, much more versatile and easier to tailor your sound to the room by bringing the right cab for the job..I have 1-12,2-10, 3 2-12's, Z 4-10 and an old 15" Emi Alnico cab...Can cover anything from a room with 20 or a hall with 1500...FWIW my first MAZ was a 1-12 Blonde...had it for 5 years...but now, would never go back to a combo any amp unless it was a grab and go low watt sorta thing..

Unfortunately, the amp is off the table. It sold before I could pull the trigger. Such is life...another one will come along!
