So, how's that new Z Wreck combo treating you? Very well, thanks. Decided not to take it to the gig as there was snow and slush everywhere.

Quick update: I finally got around to playing both Wrecks, but not in anything remotely like a proper a/b test. After playing the combo for maybe an hour, I switched to the head/cab set. To me, that sounded louder and clearer than the combo. The difference was greater than I expected. I doubt the combo's speaker is broken in yet, so that might be part of the difference.
I can do (1) a straight a/b of both rigs; (2) the head and the combo amp into a single speaker, using a Headbone; or (3) either amp then switch between cabs. I suspect (3) is important to pin down what's due to the cab and speakers, but I don't have a cab selector box to facilitate rapid a/b. I know Radial/Tonebone has one, but it's about $260, and I wouldn't have any other use for it.

I'd love to hear 1 and 3 personally. I wish I could help ya with the tonebone.
I also would t mind hearing the difference between a Z Wreck quantum silver cab Vs. A regular 2-12 Z cab with a gold and blue. I hear there is magic in the quantum cab but others tell me there's no difference.

since you have both Wrecks (congrats!!!) the important thing is how they compare to each other for YOU. when are you going to use the one or the other?

This thread has my interest peaked.
In a fit of insanity I sold my Zwreck a few months back. Been missing it bad lately.
I have been eyeballing the combo but have reservations.
Imo a big part of the zwreck sound is the zwreck cab. I tried the amp into different cabs and it didn't sound like the same amp!
I think its the interaction of the blue and gold together in that cab that really makes the magic.
To test I ran an M12 I was trying out into the zwreck cab and the little guy sounded a heck of allot like the zwreck.
It was mentioned that the combo didn't seem as loud. I'm thinking that's a good thing, most sound guys would give me the hairy eyeball if I cranked the wreck up to the sweet spot I liked around 1 pm.
Also! I was never sure which speaker to mic up at gigs. I once suggested I needed to mics and was looked at like I had lost my mind. So I usually mic'ed the gold. I'm betting the combo would sound the same as the mic'ed up zwreck the way I normally ran it.
I guess I need to get off my lazy butt and make the 8 hr drive to Humbucker music and give em a test drive.

Since I mostly play small venues, the combo gives me a more viable option (especially if I stick in a Brake Lite) to use a Wreck for gigging. The head/cab package will be for home use.

I do want to avoid a rush to judgement since break-in clearly hasn't occurred for the combo. And the combo still sounds amazing. It's got immediacy and sustain in spades. Notes really do leap off the strings.

If you're looking to compare rigs, I would definitely compare the "original" cab versus the 1×12 combo cab, using only one of the amps (gotta assume the circuitry is near identical) through a CabBone.

^^^ Yes, Mark, I thought I might run the head into both the cab and the speaker in the combo. That way I'd eliminate any possible effect from the combo amp chassis being affected by all the air moving inside the box Wish I had a CabBone for this

I don't know how I missed this thread!
Congrats, Mike! That thang is sexy as sh!t! And I loved the unpacking picture sequence! I've been thinking a good bit about adding a combo; this would be one heck of an addition...

^^^
It's a great package, Rich. With a Brake Lite, it's only 10 lbs more than a 1x10 (with Red Fang) or the MAZ 8 SC. Lighter than either of my (MAZ, JAZ) larger Z combos, neither of which has the BL installed.

I'd loan you my CabBone if I weren't in the middle of A/B'ing various speakers with my M12 right now. If I come to a stopping point, though, I could send it your way for a quick comparo.

That would be cool, Mark. I'm near NYC. I'm heading overseas in a couple weeks, though, so don't rush your comparisons for me.
What are you liking with the M12?

Maybe hit me up when you get back... It's "too close to call" on the M12: for clean (lower settings of all 3 knobs) I prefer the TT Red Alnico; for dirty/gritty (3-3-3 setting, for instance) it's G12 Blue all the way. Need to get the ET-65 in there to see how it compares to the competition.

Every time I plug into the combo I find myself just playing away and not thinking about comparisons. Just spent a solid 90 minutes with a Tele plugged straight in. Probably the sweetest clean tones I've ever generated.
Added: The amp also is merciless in exposing sloppy technique, so it's a great tool for improving right- and left-hand skills.

Awesome Mike. Can't wait for mine to see for myself. I think I read every post in this section and listened to every video I could find. Been a while since a new Z was headed my way.
