Well, After doing a speaker shoot out in the Maz awhile back and settling on the WGS ET-65 for over a year now, there are a few more new speakers that have entered the ring. I've tried hard to look away but I have weakened. I love the ET-65, I even tried the Creamback for awhile but just recently sold it(not enough bottom and a lil fizzy). The Invader intrigues me since my second favorite speaker in the Maz was the traditional Celestion Greenback. I loved the mids on the GB but it just lacked bottom end and thump. The WGS Invader is supposed to have it. We will see, as it's on route as we speak. I also have thought about the WGS Retro 30 too. I've hated Celestion 30's in every open back combo I've owned, but the Retro 30 is supposed to have removed the awful mid hump, and added some chime and low end, supposed to be a great rock'n'roll speaker). If I could find one used I would do a shoot out between the ET-65, Invader and Retro 30. I'll keep you guys posted...

I much prefer a Greenback in my maz after trying many speakers. I don,t seem to have a lack of bottom end though as I am running the bass on 9 o clock and the cut on 3 o clock!

I loved the mids on the GB but it just lacked bottom end and thump. Keep in mind...these things are relative and a change in one...effects the others. Meaning....you like the mids of a greenback, but wish it had more bass. But if the bass was greater, the mids will be different. (not as prominent) It's the greenback's lack of bass that allows the mids to shine the way they do. The creamback is supposed to have more bass than a traditional greenback. But if you didn't let it break in, you might not have experienced it.

John, that's a very good point about the tradeoffs with bass and mids. Why can't I just have it my way and have both! The funny part is for me, I am pretty happy with my tone, I'm just chasing that last 2% of perfection to my ears. I'll probably never find it , but half the fun to me is trying different speakers/tubes, ect. The Creamback was broken in and a cool speaker, but there was something about it that kept annoying me just a lil. The ET-65 has a ton of bass and very neutral, so it's gonna be hard to match.

So what did you think of the Invader compared to the ET65 and Greenback? I'm considering the Invader for my Ghia combo.

I thought the Invader had a lil more mids than the ET-65 but in the end the ET-65 stayed in my Maz. Just a perfect balanced speaker. Although I was not unhappy with the Invader in any way.
