Today I came home with a used, but like new condition, 2009 Stang Ray head and Z 2x12 cabinet (with a pair of blues). It was somewhat of an impulse buy, but I traded in a Custom Shop Stratocaster that I never really fell in love with. I know that 80% of the time it will be more amp than I need, but WOW, this things sounds good! It has a rich, 3-dimensional type of sound that I was never able to get with either a MAZ 38 or my Ghia head into my 2x10 cabinet.
So, from a MAZ 38, down to a Ghia, and back up to a Ray...I hope I've found my Z bliss?! I fell in love with my buddy's '64 AC30 the first time I played it, and almost bought an AC30CC2 with blues a few years ago, but I'm glad I held out for a hand-made, American amplifier that doesn't have scratchy pots! You may see a Ghia head and 2x10 cab on the B-S-T thread pretty soon!
I look forward to picking your brains on the Stang Ray forum from now on!

"rich 3 D sound" That pretty much sums up the Ray. Some of the best clean tones I've ever heard. I only sold mine because I had a hankering for an EZG. Enjoy.

I'm on my 2nd round of the Stangray... Probably keep this one as I missed my first one too much after I sold it.
Congrats man!

Congrats on the new amp. Those impulse buys sometimes are the most rewarding.

Just got done noodlin' around with my G&L ASAT Classic plugged right into the Stang Ray...YOWZA!
The MFD pickups in the ASAT have the power of a humbucker with the tone of a single coil, and I think I'm getting some of the best guitar tone I've ever heard! My ears are ringing though, and I only hope I can get big enough gigs to justify this LOUD rig!

Always nice to hear about a Stangray putting a smile on someone's face. I've not tried any MFD pickups with the Stangray. You're giving me ASAT GAS!
The Ray is tame-able for smaller gigs. IMHO it sounds nice with an airbrake or brakelite with one or two clicks on the dial.
Many will call this blasphemy but if you want to really tame the Ray put less efficient speakers in your cab. Blues are very efficient speakers, i.e. LOUD! Greenbacks (G12M), G12-65 and the new Creambacks are inefficient speakers. They all should sound good with the Stangray and will decrease the volume. My favorite is; Weber Alnico 50w Blue Dog and Silver Bell. Still great tone but seems to be almost half the volume. If it's still loud add in an airbrake/brakelite and your ears and patrons will be much safer. :-)
