So, had a great--if brief--little practice session this a.m., trying some different combinations of gear, and stumbled across this setup: Strat>Boiling Point>EHX Soul Food>Strymon Flint>Strymon El Capistan>Z-28>Z 1x12/G12H30. Holy smokes! Pure EJ--tones, not licks--not what I was going for, but there it was. Never gotten anywhere close before. Can't wait to try it out again tomorrow!

I've had the same experience but with Robben Ford "tone" - not licks. When I switched my PRS hollow body Archtop pups out for Lollar Imperials I was cranking my 28 up one day to test them out and there it was! Sweet sustain with only using the amps gain, a bit of verb and delay, and using different finger or pick attack, AND the guitars volume knob. I'm mainly a single coil guy so I still wonder how to get my single coils to sound "Johnson", or violin. Sounds like you've nailed it!

One of the many things about the 28, the sustain! Could never get it out of the MAZ the way I could with the 28.

Gave it another run this a.m., same setup, same tones. Always nice when you can replicate that super-awesome tone you thought you were hearing a day or two ago.
