Darn. I missed The Sound Of Music on live TV last night. How was it?

I missed it too. Sounds like the Von Trapps would have prefered Anne Hathaway for the lead.

I watched about 3 minutes as I surfed around the channels. Seemed pretty weak compared to the original (if that assessment can be made in a few minutes), but Carrie Underwood is still as cute as they come (an assessment that absolutely can be made in a few minutes).

Of course the first thing most people are going to do is compare Carrie Underwood's performance to Julie Andrew's which isn't really fair. First of all the TV performance was live so they only got one shot at it. Who knows how many takes in the studio it took to get the final cut for the movie. Next, who's going to compare favorably with Julie Andrews in her prime anyway. So I have to give Carrie and NBC credit for having the courage to try. I'm a big fan of hers and I'm glad to see her step outside her normal genre.
I recently had an opportunity to play some shows with a female singer who did some Broadway-type show tunes so I have a new appreciation for that style of singer. Especially after spending most of my life backing up typical club singers. This lady had a four octave range and at times I was in awe of her talent.
