hey guys, i'm thinking about switching cabs. i currently have a partially open back avatar 2x12 and i'm thinking about getting a z-best. i'll be playing a delta 88 through it. i basically play indie rock and will be either semi-clean or overdriven most of the time. no high gain stuff here. just looking for opinions from anybody who has played both cabs. thanks randy

I haven't played the Avatar 2x12, but I can tell you that it doesn't get better than a Z Best (that's why it has "best" in the name ;D).
The only thing to consider is if filling some air behind the cab is important, so the drummer gets some of your guitar, for example. If you're going through his monitor, though, it isn't a concern. Ideally, you could have both for different situations, sticking one on the other side of the stage, etc...

thanks kruzty, having the drummer hear me well enough is definitley a concern considering the types of shows we play don't generally include having monitors or mic'ing the guitar amps. the other concern i have is the cab being more directional than the partially open back cab is.

I don't know if it is the port or something else, but it does not seam that directional at all. It has a very "wide" sound, to me. A band was playing before us at an outdoor show a couple of months ago and I let the guitar player use my 66 and Z-Best. While they were having a sound check (nothing through the mains) I walked pretty far from the stage and back up to it and it sounded amazing everywhere!
