Hi Y'all, I am currently running an old style z112 cab loaded with a v30 with my Ghia. I like the v30 better than a g12h because I crank the amp and the v30 stays together a bit better than the g12h. It still gets a nice crunch but it is more articulate with the v30. I do not like the v30 with any other amp. What tonal differences would I experience if I stuck an Emi Red, White, and Blues speaker in the 112 cab as opposed to the v30? Do any of you have experience with what I am talking about? Also, is this an early warning sign of GAS? Thanks a heap, Crusher

The RWB runs 120 watts or so, right, so you should get some more clean headroom before amp breakup. Keeps your high gain pedals from overwhelming the speaker. I had a RWB in my Mesa Mk III combo before I traded her in, and it was close enough to the original EV I'd had in it that I didn't notice any kind of mushiness or undue speaker distortion.
Tweaking small things... yes, a sure sign of GAS. Kind of like my addiction to overdrives. I've had a few hundred by now...

Thanks tjstrat, I think what you described may be just what I am looking for. I love the OLD Dickey Betts tone when he was with Great Southern. You could hear the marshalls distorting , but not the speakers. I think that would be cool if I could achieve that sound with a low powered amp like the Ghia. Any other suggestions (speaker wise) from anyone?
