Is it OK to mix speakers with different ohms? I've just picked up a pair of 16 ohm ceramic Tubbys and I already have a pair of 8 ohm Alnico Tubbys. I'd like to try a combo of ceramic and alnico with my Ghia. Any thoughts or advice?

If you wired the 2 16ohm speakers in parallel that would give you 8ohms or if you wired the two 8 ohm speakers in series that would give you 16ohms.. either way you have three speakers wired.. don't know how you would be able to do it with just two speakers with different impedance.

You can do it, but there will be a difference in volume between the two speakers, and it winds up being a total impedance that doesn't exactly match the outputs on your amp. For example, if you put an 8 and a 16 together (wired in parallel), total impedance ends up being 5.3 ohms. Where you going to plug that in? It actually is ok (there is some debate about whether you want to use the 4 or 8 ohm output) but I doubt you'd like the volume difference between the two.

Most tube amps would be able to run 5,3 ohms in either a 4 ohm or 8 ohm tap. ( I make no promises stating this - mind you )
I would faced with this situation run the 5,3 ohm load on the 4 ohm tap. ( thats just me - YMMW )
If it's a Z-amp your talkin about - why not ask the Dr himself or one of the experts.
