Hey guys,
I'm looking to replace the baffle of my Z 1x12 cab. Well, not the whole baffle, just that part that the grill cloth is attached to. I'm going to customize the cab with my own grill cloth but don't want to pull the grill cloth off of that piece in case I ever want to put it back on. I believe that this piece is 3/4" baltic birch. Does anyone have experience with this. Where can I buy baltic birch. I'm assuming I can't get it at Lowe's. If I can't get baltic birch what else will work? Anyone?
Thanks.

If you are just talking about the thin strips and not a structural part like a side or top, I do not think you will gain anything buy using expensive baltic birch plywood. I do not know about the Home Depots and Lowes near you, but around here you would have to go to a cabinet builder's supply place or hardwood lumber dealer to get baltic birch. And you probably would not find it in less than a 4' x 8' sheet unless someone had a scrap box of odds and ends. The big deal about baltic birch for structural parts is its density and stability. It is therefore less likely to deform, flex and eat tone with vibrations. For non structural parts "regular" birch or oak plywood should be just fine and you can find half sheets at your average Lowes or Home Depot.
*edit. By baffle, you mean a frame the grill cloth is attached to, not the board the speaker actually attaches to?

THanks genjokoan. Well actually, the part I'm talking about is the part that the grill cloth attaches to. However, It also has a cutout for the speaker as it is part of the "lens" technology that doc used. The speakers are attached to one piece of 3/4" (?) and attached to that piece is another piece of 3/4" baltic birch (?) with a slightly bigger cutout fot the speaker. I'm looking to replace the piece that the grill cloth is attached to. I don't know if this actually makes any sense when I type it out. I know what I'm trying to say though!

...actually Baltic Birch is typically sold in 5'X3' sheets at cabinet/hardwood supply shops (thats 15 sq ft. opposed to 32 sq feet in a 4X8 sheet)...i think i pay right around 50 dollars for 3/4"...i use 1/2" for baffles to keep the weight down but i think the Z lense technologhy depends on the 3/4" thickness to add depth to the lense...

I think the Z lens is actually thicker than 3/4"-- almost like there are two thicknesses of wood involved.
