Hi all!
I'm new to the board and I'm about to order a MAZ38 NR head and I'm contemplating what cab/cabs to use it with. As it happens I already own two Mesa Thiele 1x12's with EV 200W-speakers (EVM12L) in them.
What is the general opinion here? Will it work? I'm guessing the cabdesign should work as the Z-best is also a Thiele-design. I'm worrying a little that the EV's are going to be a bit bright/harsh.
Has anyone tried this combo or this cabinet with any Z-amp for that matter?

Those are probably pretty transparent speakers, so it would be good for you to try the amp through them. Then, if you find you want something a little different you can look at speakers that add a little color.

I had 2 of those a few years ago loaded with 90 watt Celestions. They were great sounding cabs with plenty of punch. If you don't like them with the EV's, you can always put different speakers in them, because the cab design is great, not to mention the portablility and flexibility.

Great sounding transparent cab as stated by Krusty. And is a nice option. Another option is an open back cab with a lower wattage speaker(s) sounds nice with a Maz Sr. You're in for a treat. The maz sr is a nice amp.

Thanks for the replies! I'm really looking forward to pulling the trigger on the MAZ38. I'm selling an amp (Koch Twintone II) this week to fund it so I just have to wait 'til that's final.

Well, the Koch is sold and a blond MAZ38NR is on it's way! I'll post an update later on how the Mesa/EV-combination works out!

I Really like my EV 12s a lot. I bought them in '78 and have done tons of gigs on them. They always sound great but I don't look for any breakup from them. I want my speakers to be reproducers not instrument unto themselves.

I thought I'd share a little update! I've had the MAZ38 for about a week now and I've done one rehearsal and one gig with it and one of my Mesa Thiele/EV-cabs and the verdict is... That it really works great! It really cuts through and the small Mesa-cabs have a lot of bottom and punch! It's a great combination! Now I can't wait to get a speaker-Y-cable so that I can hook up both of my Thiele-cabs!
