Hey all, do any of you use this speaker? If so can you let me know your impressions. I use mostly the british type of Webers but I would like a more American speaker in my arsenal. Input appreciated on how this speaker sounds to you, and how well it might work with a Maz 18 or Z28.

Kledbet,
I just bought a 25 W 12F150 from a forum member and after pounding it for 2 weeks, I Ihave not been happier with a speaker in my z 28. Crispy, sharp, sparkle with V roll-off and big Tight focused bass........Big American rock tone.
I know you want feedback on the Alnico, but, I can only imagine the Alnico will sound as amazing!

Thanks 19jmm68 actually feedback on either the alnico or ceramic would be welcome. In my stable for some reason I have all British style webers, in both alnico and ceramic. Greenback, 1230-55's, blue dog, silver bells.... but no American types so I feel the need to make the stable a little more balanced.

I have 12A150/12f150 in a 2x12 - could not be happier for that american tone. highly recommended. Haven't played them separately, just together

The 12A150W / 12F150B combo in a 2x12 open back cab is my favorite with the Z-28 head. I also have a 12A150 / 12A150B combo in my Vicky Double Deluxe. The 12F150B by itself in a 1x12 open back cab was also pretty sweet with the Z-28 but I like it better matched with the alnico in the 2x12. I have run my Maz combo through the DD speakers as well as the 2x12 cab but I tend to prefer the British voiced speakers with the Maz and Ghia.
As far as a tonal description, I can't improve on the ones provided on Ted's site. All of mine are 25 watt light dope.

Another vote for the 12F150. I have one in a 1x12 built by long lost forum member Zane for my Z28 head. Sounds great. I'm sure the 12A150 would be as sweet. FWIW Tried a Emi R, W, & B and for the same setup and found it way to bassy.

Let me ask one more question. How would you best describe the difference between British and American speakers?

Let me ask one more question. How would you best describe the difference between British and American speakers? This is WAY over-simplification... Because there are so many variables with speakers... But *in general*, I think we think of British voicing as having a bit more upper mids & chime...Maybe more bite & crunch with distortion Where the US voicing we probably most think of is a flatter midrange, and a bit more chunk in the lower mids. Basically, I think these ideas come from the characteristics of the "standard" US and UK type speakers, being something like a Jensen C12N vs. a Celestion Blue.

i've had a 12A150 50W and thought it was a good all around speaker for most amps. if you want stronger attacks, go with the F version.

I'm against the grain here, I had a 12F150 25 watt, no dope, very "edgy" and it gave up the goods WAY to early for my tastes/style. YMMV.

I had to really break it in. I literally spent 15 to 20 minutes a day for a week with the z 28 on 3 oclock...............bass way up where I just played Power chords on the low E and A strings. I used an old worn set of 6v6's and wore my ear plugs.........Of course I was home alone in my basement as to not bother anyone. The speaker is still smoothing out, but, the harshness is gone. Just my experience. BTW, that is my own original break-in method

Great for clean funk rhythms and jazz, but also screams real nice w/ OD/dist

This can get pretty complicated. It sure would be nice to have all these speakers mounted in similar cabs and hear them side by side for a real comparison.

+1 for the 12F150 - I'm using it with a Fargen 20 watt head, and it's a Blackface DR to a "T" - Very "american" - Fendery sound.

how did this discussion go from "12A150" to "12F150". they do sound different and, at least i think, they are good for different things.

But since I have a Weber 12A150A, I'll chime in. I'm using mine in an open back Avatar Vintage 1X12" cab and Route 66. Ted's desription is spot on with this speaker. It is bright, loud, aggressive, punchy, and breaks up smoothly. For $179 it's a steal. I may buy another.

OK I finally put my 12A150 in the same cab as whitestrat (Avatar Vintage). I really liked it! It has less midrange than his British speakers, a more neutral speaker but with very nice tone. I played it with a Maz 18 NR head. There is very good balance between bass and treble and when you crank the amp the speaker compresses very sweetly and musically. Its nice to have a variety of speaker and cab choices so you can custom taylor your tones. Mine is the 50 watt version and it has plently of headroom before it goes into breakup. I can easily recommend this speaker to anyone.
