I just finished playing them a bit here and I have to say they do sound pretty promising. I bought two of them and I've installed them in one of my THD 2x12 cabs for the moment. They may stay in there - I like that cab's dimensions and features.
I had intended to wire the two speakers in parallel, making a 4 ohm cab, but I wanted to use 16 AWG wire and those itty bitty terminals really defeat efforts to solder two wires to a terminal, so in the end I elected to wire them in series for a 16 ohm cab. I'm fine with that, but then realized I don't have a 16 ohm Hot Plate - DRAT! I was planning on using the Hot Plate with the SRZ, so I may have just found a way to spend another $279 or so...
First thing I did was hook the Stingray to the cab to see how these compare with the Alnico Blues I have here. Well they aren't the same, but I could definitely use these, whereas when I first got the Stingray I didn't find much around here I liked with it. That's a good sign - if they'll work with the Stingray I'm already pleased. They seem to have a similar mid girth going on, with slightly less sizzle on top, but still a bright and pleasing top end.
Next I hooked up my SRZ-65 through my 8 ohm Hot Plate - thus a mismatch - and played a few minutes that way. What I noticed most is that the sizzling top end of the distortion produced by the SRZ had quite a different sound than that produced by the ceramic speakers in my THD 4x12 cab. The top end was very sweet and not fatiguing like you can sometimes get with top end through a ceramic cab.
I need more time on this cab before I really say much more though - these are brand new and will surely change some when they start to break in. I'll probably use this cab with the Stingray this weekend so that I can get some hours on these before I do any recording with them. Fortunately I gig three weekends in March, which ought to get them well on the way to broken in.
