Thoughts on how this spkr would sound with the Evan? Anyone use this EV spkr.? Since this is a clean 6l6 based amp, on paper this might be a nice speaker.

Nobody has played the EZG with the EV? I know there's a lot of 1265's, big bens, ET-65(I'm using), Creamback's, and such, but I'm looking for more Fendery based clean tone.

I've thought about that speaker myself. I believe it would sound great. I've tried a Texas Heat, and RWB, and both sounded really good.

Sorry, haven't tried the EZG w/ an EV speaker of any sort. The Dr. Z 4x10 cab is the way to go if you want "spanky yet smooth" Fender clean tones. Try one if you can!

I see.
I have so far always preferred the tone of the EZG-50 with multi-speaker setups. I don't know why exactly, but I think that as good as a 1x12 sounds (in my case a Dr. Z 1x12 w/ G12H-65 or a Marhsall 1x12 75 watt Celestion), the EZG always sounds better with multiple drivers.
If I had to go with a 1x12 it would be a G12H-65 or perhaps a Jensen Blackbird. Cheers and happy hunting!

The EVM-12L has long been my favorite "premium" speaker. Loud, clear, wide frequency range AND sounds great with overdrive. The last choice put's it above the JBL for me.
The only downside is the weight.
I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be stellar with the EZG-

But I love the EVM12L in my JAZ. I think you should try it. It is very nice clean, and cranked up it has a hiwatt vibe. Clean, clear, and LOUD. Don't expect any speaker breakup. Do it......

My favorite speaker of all time. It will not hurt a clean sound in any way in my opinion. What you put in is what you get out. It is a very efficient speaker, so it will be louder than most others. No speaker break up is right but if your amp is getting distortion from either pre-amp or power tubes ... it will still sound good.

Thanks people, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the EV. I'm using a WGS ET-65 now, and I like it ok, but I think I'm more of a Fender clean kind of guy. Nothing like great cleans as a good bass for OD pedals. The ZBest is a great cab, but for most of my gigs, its just too much.

I used a EVM 12L with a few different amps before I started playing "Z"s. I had a pair in a twin Reverb. It took two men and a boy to haul it. I used one in Seymour Duncan Convertible 100 and a Mesa Boogie. All of those were running pretty clean. It did a really good job like that. I never liked it much though when I wanted a little grit. Even with an OD pedal or driving the amp hard the speaker felt stiff. I've had other speakers that stayed clean that I liked better such as a JBL D120f or a Peavey Black Widow. It worked best for clean jazz stuff.

I used EVM12Ls for years, mostly with Mesa amps. They're still popular with high gain players. The ones I had were rated 200w. So they won't normally provide any speaker break up. (They're also almost impossible to blow.) They weigh about 16 lbs each. They are pretty neutral-sounding; they don't color the tone much and can sound a bit clinical. That's not always a good thing. And they are quite beamy - you may want to use a beam-blocker with it.
The 12" speakers I like for blackface Fender tones (like the ones the EZG is designed for) are: (in no particular order) Eminence RWB (red white and blues) Weber 12F150 Weber 12F150T
The Webers come in various wattages so be sure to get at least a 50w version. The "T" means a bit more treble. All these speakers are made to sound like the classic blackface tones of the 60's. I've used all three in my Allen Accomplice and all three do that well. If you want blackface tones, the EVM is not your best choice.

I hooked up an Emi 'Swamp Thang' (Patriot series) Kind of a poor man's JBL or EVM, (stamped frame w/ a silver dust cover) but I think it sounds WAY better! It WILL break up (if you smack it purty hard) and sounds REALLY good to my ol' crispy ears. $90 bucks at Avatar, but check out their 'scratch n' dent' dep't I got mine a few years ago for 45 bucks!

I've got an Elite Cab 1x12 from Stagecraft on the truck from St. Louis arr Mon. He was blowing out 16ohm. Swamp Thangs for free when I bought the Elite. Anthony got the Red matching tolex to match my Red Evan(oval). I did the elite so in the future, I'd have the option for an EV or other heavy speaker, as the elite cab has 3/4 baffle board, to support heavy magnets, and a little smaller oval cutout in the back. WiSh I had it for Sundays gig, so I may have to "suffer" with the Z-Best again. Bikedude, aka BDUB
