I'm looking to get a 2x12 extension cab for my Z-28 combo, and I would like your help. I already know that I'm going to get the Vintage 30 & the G12H combination of speakers, but my question is what will the major differences be between an open vs. closed back cab. I've read that the closed back cabs have more low end. Is this really true, and if so, how much more than an identical cab with an open back? Please share your experiences with both, and why you chose open or closed back. Also will the 22w of the Z-28 be able to power all 3 speakers if I use the 2x12 cab and the internal greenback simultaneously? Thanks for your input!

I like an open back because it fills the stage a little more (because some of the sound is coming out the back). This is nice if your drummer doesn't have you in the monitor.
I have a front ported closed back cab that I didn't like as well as open back, so I thought I would never get another closed back. Then I swapped speakers and used it with another amp and it is great. So, I think the type of cab to get depends on the speaker(s)/amp(s) you are using it with. From your description, it sounds like a Z Best might be in your future. Your Z-28 will easily drive all the speakers. My Mini (5 watts) sounds great through 2 1x12 cabs.

I've had a Zbest and currently have a partial open back Avatar. The low end is more focused in the closed back. The open back still has plenty of low end, and it's not necessarily loose, just different, but still nice. The amp itself has alot to do with low end response as well. The open back fills the room a little better as the sound is coming from more than one place. The open back is also considerably lighter! ;D.
Good luck!
