I've read some threads on here stating that the Celestion Blues are about the loudest and most efficient speakers on the market these days. I realize that the sensitivity rating plays a part in this, however the Blues have a 100db rating according to the Celestion website, which is also the rating for other Celestion speakers (V-30 and G12H30 for example). If they are rated for the same sensitivity, is there really that big of difference in volume coming from the speaker, or is it more related to the speakers voicing? Just curious.

I'd think that voicing would play a big part in the perceived loudness...speakers that project a lot of high mids would "cut through more" than a darker speaker with the same rating.

I've got a blue and a G12H30. I haven't made a close study of it but, run from a Maz Jr, I couldn't tell you which is louder. They sound different -- the G12H is livelier and has a more solid bottom to it. I use it for gigs.
As far as cutting through goes, if you've got another guitarist playing in the same sonic space you're in, it's always going to be a problem.
For rehearsals I use a champ into the blue. When the steel player -- who runs the biggest pedal board I've ever seen through a BiValve and a Showman (switched) into a THD 2x12 (with whatever's in there) -- and I get into compression/sustain contests, there are times I can't tell who's playing what.

My EVM12L and Blue have the same 100db sensitivity ratings, and blend together quite well--- I don't think one is louder than the other at all.
Voicing probably has a LOT to do with perceived volume, even when the "paper" spec is identical.
