So in shopping around to try & find a couple of cabinets for the new Z heads, I was trying to match up something that would fit in my existing road cases so I wouldn't have to take a big loss & still have to buy brand new cases.
I also dug the look of the old square Z 1-12" cabinets, but they are hard to find.
As it turns out, since Ted Weber started doing amps kits, I thought, "Hmmm... I wonder if a combo cab from one of the kits would work if it didn't have the chassis cutout."
So I spoke to Ted, and he said that since their cabs are pretty much "made to order" and not pre-fab, you can use any of the combo cabinets as extensions & simply specify "no chassis cutout."
So as it turns out, his 18 watt Marshall kit cabinet is nearly identical in dimensions to my MAZ 18. And the AC30 kit cab is very close to my MAZ 38 2 12". As in, both are close enough to fit nicely into my existing road cases.
Another cool feature of Ted's cabs is that he has a ton of color & grill options, and they are priced very nicely. They will also cut a baffle for the given cab to fit whichever speaker combo you use (like a single 12", two 10's, etc.) For example, the 5F4 tweed Super cabinet is also close in dimensions to my MAZ 18. But I could specify a 1 12" baffle instead of 2 10's if I wanted to go that route. Just have to decide if you liked the look better of a narrow-panel Fender-style or the 18 Marshall-type cab.
So since many of you have asked about the more traditional "square" type extension cabs, I thought I'd share this info in case anyone is looking for a cool, affordable way to get a custom cabinet.
I'm including the link to some of their cab pictures, as well as a couple of them that I lifted off of the site because I thought they would match up well with Z heads.
