This question is for anybody, of course, but I'm paging JChance on it because it seems he has more experience with the Webers than anyone else...
The subject has been brought up a couple times, but there's never really been an answer. I of course realize this is all opinion, but hey- that's what these forums are for, right?
Just curious: as for the Doc's speakers, both 12" and 10", I was curious if there were "similar" models in the Weber line? (or, in ANY line for that mater...Celestion, Emininence...)

Dr. Z's 10's are pretty unique. I don't think there's anything in the Clestion,Emi, or Weber line that's *exactly* comparable. They did have some design input from Ted Weber, however, and probably the closest thing to them are the Weber 10V and 10VS. Loud British-types, kind of spin-offs on the Celestion V-10. As far as the standard 12's in Z amps, when speaking of G12H30's, Vintage 30's, and Greenbacks, there are tons of options from Eminence and Weber based on those classic designs. For Greenback types, I can't remember what the Emi models are called, but they are there... The ceramic Weber Blue & Silver are similar to the 60's era Greenbacks. I think the Eminence equivalents are the Private Jack, Governor, Red Fang (like a Celestion Blue), and a couple of others. With all that said, Dr. Z's choice of speaker perfectly suit his amps. You can experiment with the Eminence and Weber stuff if you are after specific voicings, but Z knows what he's doing. Take a MAZ 38 for example- In it's stock combo form, with the H30 and V30, the amp is agressive & loud, but balanced. With Weber Blue/Silver, it's a bit softer in terms of attack, has a bit less headroom, and is a touch mroe detailed...making for really "pretty" cleaner tones. But it still sounds like a MAZ38... You just have to decide exactly what you are after. If you don't know, sticking with what Dr. Mike goes with is a great choice.

Thanks for the info. When I buy the Ghia, I'm going with 12's, but I have been playing 10's for like 10 years now. Just wanted some background info so that when I get the Ghia and (maybe) decide to start speaker experiments, I'll sort of know what speakers lead in which direction. Thanks!
