Hi fellow tone hounds! Ive got lots of celestions, 8 and 16 ohm greenbacks, 30 watter's , vintage 30's etc. I want to try some different speakers in my Z Best but I cant seem to remove the original speakers! I removed the screws but the speakers wont budge. It really feels like I would yank the magnet off the frame trying to get it out. Is there something holding it on the grillcloth side of the baffle? ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!! Mark

This is a fairly common, but not serious, problem. The cork or other material around the rim of the speaker tends to form a bond with the wood. Slip a flathead screwdriver or other similar tool CAREFULLY between the cork and the wood and just work them slowly apart. Take your time. They should eventually separate.

It happened to me too with a Z 2x10 cab that I was putting beam blockers in. Some of the paper gasket stayed stuck to the board but I put them right back in the way they came out so I didn't care. On my Maz 38 combo the speaker came right out.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll try again this weekend to pull the speakers. And I will go Carefully!

That was my idea..........................the hair dryer. However, most importantly is to use a puddy knife, about 1 inch wide..............and slowly and patiently slip it between the baffle and cork......work your way around the circumference of the speaker to loosen things up........but, don't try and pry the speaker out with the puddy knife................sliding it around the circumference after you heat it with one hand while the other hand pulls gently on the frame should loosen it up..................mostly though be patient.
or just leave the z best stock! I love a stock z beasT

also.....................and maybe you don't need to know this, but, there are "T" nuts on the other side of thebaffle( I think???) There were on my J designs cab so I am assuming the z best is the same.........anyway, be carful not to force any screws because if you pop one of these t nuts loose, then you have to remove the grill...........which creates a whole big mess.
( From experience of course!)
